About US:

The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of health.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Will perform data abstraction and entry from various source documents to study documents as well as study computers.
  • Identifying, entering, updating and verifying research data into project data collection systems.
  • Responds to periodic data queries generated and participates in data cleaning
  • Reviews and verifies previously entered data to ensure accuracy
  • Assists and trains other project personnel on project data collection and entry procedures
  • Ensures accuracy and confidentiality of information recorded.
  • Work in close conjunction with the data Centre Manager, carries out routine maintenance of project computer systems

Key Result Areas:

  • Maintenance of study ethical standards.
  • Data entry, analysis and backup.
  • Project reports.
  • Routine maintenance of Project Computers

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The Data Officer must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Statistics or any other related course.
  • A minimum of two years of previous field experience in data collection and entry.
  • Excellent communication skills, be able to work in team and should be flexible to suit changing needs of the project that may include but are not limited to long working hours.
  • Ability to work in a rural setting.
  • Must fluently speak and understand Runyankole/ Rukiga and or languages widely spoken in Western Uganda.
