Care and Assistance for Forced Migrants (CAFOMI) is a not-for-profit; non-partisan organization limited by guarantee and registered by the Uganda NGO Board/Bureau as a national non-government focusing on protection and assistance in complex emergencies, local context durable solutions for forced migrants, early warning alerts through research and advocacy and a national response surge capacity for emergencies. CAFOMI aims to ensure that forced migrants (refugees) live a dignified life to internationally acceptable standards and positively contributing to the development of their host communities through professionalism, commitment, transparency, accountability, teamwork, participation, partnerships, respect, integrity, multiculturalism, continuous learning and development. CAFOMI, through a tripartite agreement with UNHCR and Government of Uganda (OPM) was selected to implement emergency response and mixed solutions activities in 2018 in the refugee hosting districts of Bundibugyo, Isingiro, and Kisoro.

Job Summary: The Psychosocial Counselor – SGBV will mainly be responsible for the day to day psychosocial support to the beneficiaries as well as providing specialized counselling support to SGBV survivors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and confidentiality services to SGBV survivors.
  • If needed refer beneficiaries for case management to the case worker.
  • Escorting SGBV survivors to the health centre for medication and record their cases to SGBVIMS.
  • Should be able to fill the incident forms for the survivors and organize case management with other social workers.
  • Closely monitor and document SGBV cases referred by the case workers.
  • Write technical reports on specific cases identified during the individual case management support sessions.
  • Mentor and train volunteers, church leaders and other local actors and community members on the identification, principles of SGBV and referral of SGBV cases to CAFOMI and other partners in charge of SGBV.
  • Set up a monitoring system to evaluate the effectiveness and the impact of the planned individual and group psychological support intervention programs on beneficiaries/SGBV survivors.
  • Provide periodic reports i.e. weekly, monthly, Quarterly reports to the SGBV officer.
  • Carry out any-other duties as required by the supervisor and take part in any other activities as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, development studies, Counselling, Psychology or related field.
  • Three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SGBV prevention and response in humanitarian services.
  • Familiarity with guidelines on SGBV SOPs and Psychological Support in emergency settings.
  • Excellent organisational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge word and excel.
  • Must have a compassionate, caring and non-judgmental personality.
  • Must be a person who keeps confidentiality to him/herself.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
