CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to life-saving technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required for high-quality care and treatment programs.
About Project:
CHAI will implement an evidence based Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health project to support the Government of Uganda address the challenges above. The 4 year project will focus on ensuring that timely and quality Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health services are available and accessible to women, adolescents and children. Working at national, district and community level, the program will focus on equipping, and building the capacity of the health system to ably manage, deliver and sustain improvement in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health programming. The project will be implemented in 5 districts.
Job Summary: The Associate, Maternal and Newborn Health Surveillance Systems will be a focal point responsible for collaboration with the CHAI program team and the Ministry of Health in strengthening assessment, research, and program activities for public health surveillance of community-based maternal and neonatal health and tracking maternal and neonatal mortality and stillbirths in CHAI program areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design the community maternal and neonatal health surveillance system
- Provide technical oversight of the community maternal and neonatal health surveillance system
- Develop training materials and deliver trainings for community health workers and government officials at various levels to understand data capture and use for the surveillance system
- Create a strategy for and conduct systematic data quality audits
- Perform data analysis to document changes in health outcomes over time and across geographies
- Support reporting to donors and partner governments through data analysis and identify gaps and challenges in meeting targets
- Develop a process for and lead regular program performance reviews using data from the surveillance system
- Develop tools and strategies to transition the management of the surveillance system to the government
- Investigate options for and support establishment of technology-based solutions to facilitate electronic reporting
- Perform any other functions as may be assigned by supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Associate, Maternal and Newborn Health Surveillance Systems job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics or equivalent
- Three years of experience as an analyst, preferably doing monitoring and evaluation work
- Significant experience working in a Health and Demographic Surveillance System and program monitoring systems
- Experience with community-based interventions including conducting verbal and social autopsies at community level
- Experience in collecting, reviewing, analyzing and validating longitudinal data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
- Strong project Management skills
- Practical project management experience
- Guides a subset of program/functional development across related project areas
- Provides advice on effectiveness of program, systems or procedures
- Recommends initiatives and priorities within a defined program area or function
- Able to prioritize work objectives
- Able to work independently
- Assists in identifying discrete issues, develops presentable insights and recommendations
- Analyses data and draws conclusions from data
- Manages the development and maintenance of databases and tools
- Able to present findings from analysis
- Designs approaches to collect data and improve processes
