About Project:
Jhpiego is the implementing partner for the East Africa Accelerator Hub for an exciting project called The Challenge Initiative (TCI) – known as Tupange Pamoja in East Africa. The project is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) through The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Department of Population, Family & Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This is a multifaceted program focused on the rapid expansion of urban family planning programs worldwide but with focus on the largest cities in Asia and Africa. TCI is an ambitious program that leverages a matching challenge fund mechanism to provide incentives for the rapid scale up of urban family planning programs through a framework of accountability measures, demand driven participation of cities, and technical support via at least four regional accelerator hubs.
Job Summary: The Program Assistant will serve as a member of the Challenge Initiative technical, management and implementation teams and will help manage the administrative, financial, logistical and programmatic tasks required for Jhpiego programs. This includes assisting with program administration including scheduling meetings, preparation or editing of program reports, and power point presentations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a basic university degree in social sciences or a health related field; Additional postgraduate / certifications are an added advantage.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar or related position
- Self- management is necessary (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability).
- Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence.
- Ability to handle a variety of different assignments sometimes under pressure of deadlines.
- Be cooperative, competent, hardworking, flexible and dependable.
- Ability to coordinate information and logistics for programs and activities.
- Good team player
- Basic understanding of MCH, HIV/AIDS, RH/FP and Health related issues, with a global focus is necessary.
- A broad variety of programmatic, administrative, financial, and computer skills (including Word Access,
- Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access), which may need to be acquired through very quick learning.
- Experience in team working and multi-cultural staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in Uganda Ministry of Health, other agencies and organizations worldwide
