Makerere University Business School Online Admissions 2024-2025

Step 1: Accessing the Application Portal
Access The online application link by clicking here: https://admissions.mak.ac.ug/ . Ensure that the page is secure before you continue.
NOTE: There might be other websites masquerading as the application portal. Only access the link advertised by the university

Step 2: Signup
– Signup by clicking the orange signup button at the bottom of the page. If you cannot see the button, your browser could be having a zoom in setting. Zoom out holding down the “CTRL” button and pressing “+” button on PC and “CMD” and “+” on Mac

– A password (six-digit number) will be sent to Your mobile number and your email address.
NOTE: Sometimes depending your Mobile Telecom service provider, the message may delay or not be delivered. In this case, don’t panic, simply check your email. The same information is sent to your email as well.
– Login using this password and your email address or your mobile number by selecting the “login with Tel No” option
– After Logging in, you will be prompted to change the password to the one you can remember. Password should have at least a length of six Characters
– The system will take you back to the login prompt to now login with your new password

Step 3 Filling a Form
After Logging in, click on the “APPLY NOW” Button to view the advertised Schemes. Read the instructions carefully of each of the scheme you want to apply for

Fill in the application form accordingly. To submit there is minimum information that must be captured. If you don’t have this information ready, simply save the form and return later to complete it when you have all the information required to submit the application form

Once the form is completely filled and submitted the following actions can be done

Important to note:

  1. You will need a valid email address before you can use the online application portal. Create an email account if you don’t have one.
  2. Please have scanned copies of your passport size photo, birth certificate, O and A Level pass slips and previous school ID and academic transcripts where necessary before you start filling your application
  3. Once you pay the application fees, please login again to confirm that the application status has changed from ‘Application Submitted’ to ‘Application Completed’. If otherwise, please contact the Academic Registrar’s Department, Office 612, Senate building or helpme@acadreg.mak.ac.ug.
  4. Do not share your application portal login details with anyone.
  5. Make sure you logout and close browser window after filling application form.

 

How to Create an Email Address

  1. Access a browser on an internet enabled computer.
  2. Choose an email provider of your choice by going to one of the following URLs – Yahoo (https://www.yahoo.com), Gmail (https://www.gmail.com), Hotmail (https://www.hotmail.com) or any other provider of your choice
  3. Click on create new account/signup button
  4. Enter all the mandatory fields normally marked by a star (*)
  5. Type in your username (Make sure it’s relevant to your purpose)
  6. Choose a secure and easy to remember password (Secure passwords typically have numbers, special characters, uppercase and lowercase alphabets)
  7. Select your security question and answer. This will allow you to reset your password in case you forget it.
  8. Verify your registration by typing the text you see in the captcha, if applicable.
  9. Save to create your email account.
  10. Login to your email account to confirm.
  11. Please keep track of this email id and password as relevant information from the University system will be sent only to this email ID.

Makerere University offers a wide range of study opportunities at different levels of your career. These programmes which are conducted in English as the language of instruction range from undergraduate, graduate as well as continuing career enhancement options. If standard study options dont apply to you, flexible study options may be more suitable.

  • Evening Study programmes designed to offer opportunities to mainly the working class although any interested person who meets the admission requirements can apply to be considered for admission.
  • Distance learning or External study programmes designed to benefit those who merit University education but for some reason are unable to attend regular classes at the University.

Makerere University Business School Direct Entry Admissions 2024-2025

General Instructions

Each applicant should:

Either

Have the Uganda Certificate of Education with at least (five passes), or its equivalent and at least two principal passes at Advanced Level obtained at the same sitting. For day programmes, only candidates who sat “A” Level in 2013, 2012 and 2011 are eligible to apply.  For Evening, Afternoon, and External programmes, a candidate is not restricted on the year of sitting “A” Level.

Or

Hold at least a Second Class or Credit (or equivalent classification) Diploma  from a recognized institution, relevant to the programmes applied for. ( Details of the Diploma Admission requirements for the 2014/2015 academic year can be viewed on the notice boards of the undergraduate admissions office notice boards or on Makerere University website: http://mak.ac.ug)

Or

Be a Graduate from a recognized university.

How to apply

  1. Application forms and other relevant information may be obtained from undergraduate admissions Office, Level 3, Senate Building, Makerere University. Admissions are processed in May/June every year.
  2. Non-refundable application fee of UG Shs.50,000/= for Ugandans and UG Shs.172,500/= for International applicants plus Bank charge of UG Shs.2,500/= should be paid from the following banks using Makerere University Paying-in-slips:

3. After paying, each applicant must attach a copy of the paying – in slip to the application form and submit the completed application form to the Undergraduate Admissions Office in the Senate Building, Makerere University.

Candidates who hold grades X, Y, Z, 7 and 9 of ‘O’level results should not apply because they are Not eligible for admission.

Diploma holder applicants who hold class three (3) Diploma Certificates are not eligible for admission and therefore should not apply, except where stated in the diploma holders requirements.

WARNING:
Applicants are strongly warned against presenting forged or other people’s academic documents to support their applications for admission.  The consequences, if discovered, are very grave indeed.

Makerere University Business School Postgraduate Admissions 2024-2025

Postgraduate Diploma

Normally a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized University in a subject or subjects relevant to the course applied for. Each programme has its Admission requirements stipulated under the Faculty/School/Institute Website.

Duration of Programme: 1 Academic Year

Masters Degree

Normally a Bachelor’s degree of at least second class, lower division or equivalent from a recognized University.  Applicants with lower qualifications must satisfy the relevant department and the Postgraduate Admissions Board that they have acquired academic growth, for instance, by evidence of research and publications or a relevant Postgraduate Diploma of Second class division.  In some departments, a qualifying course followed by examination is given.

Duration of Programme:      Full time – 2 Calendar years

        Part time – 3 Calendar years

Master of Medicine degree: Full time – 3 Calendar years

Doctor Of Philosophy (Ph.D)

Normally a Master’s degree from a recognized University in a field relevant to the area of further studies.  First degree graduates who wish to register for Ph.D. would normally register for a master’s degree first and after a year or two of satisfactory progress may apply for upgrading of their candidature to Ph.D. level.  A research outline (synopsis) of 3-5 pages length should accompany the application.  This will be useful as a guide for PROVISIONAL ADMISSION for one year during which time the applicant will develop a comprehensive research proposal necessary for a FULL ADMISSION as soon as the proposal is approved.

Duration of Programme: Full time – 3 Calendar Years

                                      Part time – 5 Calendar Years

M.D. Degree

A Master’s degree in Medicine from a recognised University.

Duration of Programme: Full time – 3 Calendar Years

                                   Part time – 5 Calendar Years

LLD. Degree

A Master degree in Law from a recognised University.

Duration of Programme: Full time – 3 Calendar Years

                                      Part time – 5 Calendar Years

D. Litt. & D.Sc. (Higher Doctorates)

Degrees are awarded upon successful submission of original published and unpublished works on the area/topic of specialization.  These are higher doctorates normally applied for by holders of Ph.D. degrees.

Occasional Postgraduate students

  • Under occasional studentship, the University accepts non-degree students from other recognized University institutions on an agreed fees structure.  Application should be channeled through the Heads of such institutions.
  • Candidates may apply for registration at any time and could be admitted at the beginning of any semester of the academic year.
  • Occasional students may register for at least a semester and for not more than one academic year.
  • No such registration shall overlap two academic years.
  • All applications must be addressed to the Director, School of Postgraduate Studies who shall, in consultation with relevant bodies within the University, register such students.

Extension of Study Duration

With special permission, these periods may be extended as the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Research may consider reasonable.

Under no circumstances will a candidate be allowed to submit a thesis for examination unless he/she has been under regular and approved supervision for at least one year for a Master’s degree and two years for a Doctoral degree.

Makerere University Business School Mature Age Admissions 2024-2025

To be eligible for the Mature Age entry examinations, the candidate must be at least 25 years old during the year of application.

Application forms for those intending to sit the examinations are issued at the university, Room 505, Senate building on payment of non-refundable application fees of shs.150,000/= using Makerere university bank paying-in slips in the following banks:-

  • Stanbic Bank
  • Post Bank
  • dfcu Bank
  • Centenary Bank

Mature Age Examinations are sat in December of the preceding academic year. The closing date for submitting the completed application forms is announced on the News Portal (https://news.mak.ac.ug)

Makerere University Business School Admissions for International Applicants 2024-2025

Makerere University welcomes International Students who satisfy the minimum entry requirements-see weighting system and Diploma holders’ requirements for Advanced Level and Diploma holders’ applicants respectively at www.mak.ac.ug.

  1. Get pay in slips from Stanbic or DFCU bank at the main campus Makerere University where applicable.
  2. After paying the Fee of USD $ 75 or 172,500 UGX  take the bank slip to the main building (Finance Department) for verification where applicable.
  3. On presentation of the application fee bank slip, pick the application form from Room 316, Level 3, Senate Building.
  4. Applicants with academic documents prescribed in other languages other than English should be submitted to the School of Languages, Makerere University for translation into English.
  5. Applicants who obtained qualifications elsewhere other than Uganda should take their secondary school academic documents to Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) located in Ntinda for purposes of being equated to Ugandan grades.
  6. Completed forms should be returned to level 3, Senate Building, Room 316, and the following documents MUST be attached to the application form:
    • Original Pay in slip from the Bank
    • One Passport size photograph of the applicants’ current likeness
    • Photocopies of Secondary School   Certificates (i e Ordinary Level and Advanced Level) or its equivalent.
  7. Diploma/Degree holder’s applicants MUST attach certified photocopies of their academic transcripts issued by the awarding institutions.
  8. Applicants from countries where the language of instruction is not English are required to bring evidence of proficiency of English. However, Makerere University (School of Languages) conducts proficiency tests on request.
  9. Applicants wishing to be admitted to the Bachelor of Laws programme offered by Makerere University are required to take a pre-entry examination.
  10. International students MUST present insurance certificates from a reputable insurance firm at the time of admission.So, the insurance firm should cater for any eventuality not Makerere University.
  11. The Academic Year normally starts in August every year. Applicants can download the form and send it with academic documents attached to;The Academic Registrar (Admissions),

The Occasional Studentship Scheme was approved by the Senate at its Special Meeting Held on 3rd May, 2006

    • The Makerere University Diploma Applicants List experienced a set back due to the strikes and unforeseen circumstances. The list shall be released to the public as soon as ready and shall be available here.

    • Daniel, certificate admissions are yet to commence and are expected within this month of March. Kindly check back for updates.

    • Marion, you will be given a 3 year degree program. You will have to apply under diploma entry scheme. Makerere University has already ended its government admissions. Private Admissions are ongoing and due to end on 8th June 2017

    • Work is bein done to ensure there are no errors, hence a thorough verification process is being carried out. The list will be published within this month .

    • Yes betty, it is however advisable to contact the registrars office and explain why you will not be attending classes, your admission will then be reserved.
