About US:
The National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS) is one of the statutory semi-autonomous bodies in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF); established in 2001 by an Act of Parliament (NAADS Act 2001) to specifically facilitate efficient and effective delivery of agricultural advisory services for enhanced production and productivity.
Job Summary: The Head, Legal Services will ensure that legal services are rendered to NAADS Secretariat in an efficient and effective manner at all times by overseeing the management and coordination of the legal services at NAADS Secretariat. List of specific tasks and duties to be performed;
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiate legal proceedings in the courts of law on behalf of NAADS Secretariat;
- Defend NAADS Secretariat in the Courts of law where proceedings have been initiated against it;
- Represent NAADS Secretariat in Arbitration, Mediation and other forums under alternative dispute resolution;
- Carry out legal audits of all ongoing court cases; and accordingly advising the Board and Management of NAADS on the appropriate course of action and legal remedies;
- Make the relevant correspondences, on behalf of the Secretariat that relate to court matters;
- Formulate and review agreements or contracts that may relate to the NAADS Secretariat;
- Render legal guidance to the Secretariat on any matter upon which the Board may seek guidance and;
- The legal practitioner should be in position to assess the respective court fees, which shall be reimbursed at the conclusion of the relevant case or at the withdrawal of instructions.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) Head, Legal Services job placement must hold a bachelor’s degree in Law and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
- He/she should be a practicing advocate
- At least eight years of work experience in law practice, with at least four (4) years at a senior level.
- He/she has not been previously suspended by Law Council.
- He/she must be conversant with PPDA law and regulations and other related procurement laws.
