Restless Development (Uganda) is an International NGO established to address the challenges faced by young people in Uganda by placing young people at the forefront of change and development. Our vision is for all Ugandan youth to live healthy and productive lives, fully supported by those around them. Our programming focuses on three core areas: youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth civic participation and youth employment and livelihoods.
Job Summary: The Fundraising Manager will work closely with the Hub Director to identify new partnerships and write high quality bids and proposals. S/he will also work closely with the Senior Programmes Manager to ensure our partners, donors and supporters receive high quality reports and communications on the important work that Restless Development’s young changemakers deliver. As an important member of the Hub’s Management Team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the direction of the organization through the Restless Development Uganda’s Fundraising Strategy, a document that you will shape and deliver. To excel in this exciting role, the successful candidate will have proven fundraising and bid writing experience, excellent communication skills (in particular outstanding writing skills), and a strong commitment to youth-led development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the Hubs Fundraising strategy and plan
- Develop and drive the Hub’s Fundraising Strategy
- Lead on proposal development and coordinate teams to input into funding applications and programme budgets in line with the programme quality framework
- Write high quality tailored funding applications addressing donor priorities while contributing to the Hub’s vision
- Ensure all funding applications follow the agency’s business principles Help improve Programme team’s proposal development skills e.g. Theory of Change, budgeting, and results framework
- Support the delivery of fundraising and/or donor engagement events Deliver the unrestricted funding plan
Donor scoping and engagement
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential new donors, including leading and/or supporting others to lead strategic pitches;
- Collate intelligence / mapping of opportunities available at national, regional and global levels Network to stay ahead of the latest trends and up-to-date on changing donor priorities Work closely with the Hub Director to come up with engaging cultivation opportunities for prospective and existing donors
- Ensure the Hub’s income tracking tool is accurately updated on a monthly basis and all opportunities in the pipeline are clearly documented
Management
- Management of the Grants Coordinator to ensure high quality narrative and financial reports and donor management
- Produce fundraising updates for review by the Management and Board.
- Contribute to the Hub’s annual planning processes having ownership of the fundraising related submission
- Support Leadership Team members with their responsibilities, including acting as cover whilst members are on leave, on in-country visits etc;
- Serve as a role model at all times, embodying Restless Development’s values and ensuring staff adherence to policy and procedure across the organization;
- Other duties as required.
Linking with other hubs and International
- Engage with other Hubs’ fundraising teams to develop multi-country funding applications Exchange intelligence on existing and potential donors with other Hubs to increase the agency’s donor base
Other duties as required: Other duties as required. Occasionally working on weekends, late night in case of volunteer incidents and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The Restless Development Fundraising Manager job should preferably have three years of fundraising experience in the international development sector
- Proven experience of programme design and development
- Understand Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) systems and use of data and evidence for learning and development in design processes.
- Experience in institutional partnership building, relationship management, fundraising and partnership development; consortium experience ideal
- Understanding of project cycle management
- Proven success building relationships, coordinating complex processes with many stakeholders and leading /influencing ‘up’ the organogram, ‘across’ to partners and peers, and ‘down’ with direct reports
- Excellent written and fluent spoken English
- Excellent IT, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge across one or more of our hoal areas
- Experience of working in a developing country
- Knowledge of relevant national and international strategies and frameworks in the areas of youth empowerment, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, education and poverty issues
