About US:
The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Uganda Chapter is part of a global network of self-organized, self-governing women aimed at advocating for the reduction of barriers for women in coffee producing countries by providing access to resources while creating a forum through which women connect with others throughout the coffee value chain. IWCA Uganda Chapter started in 2010, with the goal developing a strong and visible network of women in the coffee industry who can share their experiences, resources and contacts with others throughout IWCA chapters in producing and consuming countries.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Guidance Leadership and Program support
- Ensure the day-to-day running of IWCA Uganda Chapter and report to the Board periodically.
- Provide strategic input in the design of programs aimed at increasing market access and linkages, lobbying and advocacy, socio-economic empowerment and resource mobilisation, management and sustainability.
- Develop and operationalize policies, guidelines and working documents for the Chapter.
- Provide leadership in the annual planning and budgeting for IWCA Uganda Chapter.
- Provide technical support to Staff in the implementation of the Chapter’s strategic programs
- Review and or prepare necessary reports.
Strategic partnerships and advocacy
- Map potential partners with strengths that would be complementary to IWCA Uganda Chapter, and develop appropriate partnering arrangements.
- Manage relationships with strategic partners at national and international level through networking and collaboration
- Coordinate lobbying and advocacy efforts in order to influence policies that affect women participation and empowerment along the coffee value chain
- Prepare information and dissemination at Partners’ / Stakeholders’ fora such as meetings, conferences, and exhibitions.
Resource Acquisition
- Develop the IWCA Uganda Chapter’s funding strategy and ensure funding from diverse sources.
- Map / identify donors to support the implementation of the Chapter’s programs;
- Develop concept papers and proposals for fund raising and marketing of IWCA Uganda Chapter.
People Management and Development
- Supervise Secretariat Staff, and mentor them by providing the necessary guidance and support.
- Monitor Staff performance by conducting performance reviews / appraisals.
- Promote team effectiveness and organization through conducting team meetings and trainings.
Financial management and accountability
- Ensure stewardship, accountability and transparency of the Chapter’s finances.
- Maintain budget and track expenditures/transactions
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
- Ensure that an M&E system is established and that lessons are documented to improve program design for IWCA Uganda Chapter.
- Work collaboratively with the Program Officer to collect and analyse relevant M&E data, and prepare relevant reports.
- Ensure that lessons learnt from program implementation are documented and incorporated in program review and design
Others: Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in: Gender Studies; Social Work and Social Administration; or Arts / Social Sciences; or Project Planning and Management; or Public Administration; or Food Science and Technology; or Management Studies; or International Development; or Business Administration; or Strategic Management; or Development Studies; or Rural Development; or relevant discipline.
- Post graduate qualification in any of the above disciplines will be added advantage.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in development work or community empowerment work, three (3) years of which should have been at a program / project management level.
- Experience in networking with a range of donors and partners.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, demonstrated leadership and good management ability.
- Knowledge of development work and community empowerment.
- Strong negotiation, problem solving, liaison, and networking skills.
- Strong People Management and Leadership Skills.
- Proven project management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills
- Strong skills in data analysis, research and report writing
