Over 34m people in Uganda are off-grid, which equates to 6.2m households who have no access to power and instead depend on kerosene for light and local businesses for phone charging. To address this, Fenix International has developed ReadyPay, a new Pay-To-Own Solar Power System. Coming in a range of kits, ReadyPay Power Systems are designed to provide clean light, phone charging, entertainment and more for those living off-grid.
Job Summary: The Customer Credit Data Analyst will join a high performing team who is passionate about pioneering expanded financial services to off-grid customers at the base of the pyramid. Key responsibilities will include helping draw powerful insights for action from our unique, extensive, and rich dataset of customers and driving improvements in our approach to data gathering, analytics, and presentation. Your data insight will make a meaningful impact by enabling Fenix to continuously innovate on how we support our customers in their repayment journey.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Fenix’s mission to empower our customers with inclusive life changing products by bringing data driven insights that shape our consumer finance strategy
- Use our unique data set as well as insights derived from the field to refine and iterate on our customer retention strategy, to improve payment velocity, repayment rates and repeat sales
- Conduct rigorous and nimble analysis using Fenix data on customer payments, communications records, and other data sources to:
- Summarize loan portfolio performance and create informative reports for audiences including but not limited to the Fenix leadership team, Fenix Board and Investors
- Identify areas for operational improvements
- Evaluate the results from tests, pilots, and experiments
- Design and own interactive dashboards that summarize portfolio repayment and data trends
- Identify local context which might impact customer repayment as we move into new markets
- Support with ad-hoc data requests and reporting of Fenix’s loan portfolio from Fenix leadership, board and investors
- Support the refinement of underwriting and credit policies that maximize customer lifetime value while appropriately balancing risk and maintaining Fenix’s inclusive approach.
- Support in the development of cutting edge metrics and analyses to evaluate customer repayment behavior of PAYGO Solar
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree
- Excitement about Fenix’s mission and a deep desire to make an impact on off-grid and financially underserved customers in sub-Saharan Africa
- High level of competency with analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, D3, ggplot)
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills (English)
- Ability and drive to work independently

- Commitment to live and work with Fenix in East Africa for at least 2 years
Desired:
- Masters degree
- One to two years of experience or education in statistics, financial analysis, etc, particularly in microfinance or behavioral economics
- Proficiency with a statistical analysis program (e.g. R, STATA)
- Ability to query databases using MySQL
- Education and/or work experience in East Africa
- Leadership and project management experience: we are looking for entrepreneurial candidates who have started or contributed significantly to a particular project, team, or new company and we especially value candidates who have seen projects through from start to finish, from design to scale up phase
