Days for Girls is a registered non-governmental organization that is committed to empowering women and communities by promoting access to menstrual health management options and reproductive health knowledge. The organization utilizes a multipronged approach to achieve its mission. In Uganda, Days for Girls focuses on embedding solutions to challenges created by lack of menstrual health management materials and reproductive health knowledge by partnering with local grassroots organizations and conducting comprehensive training and mentoring programs. Trainings offered include menstrual hygiene & reproductive health education programs, the production and sale of washable menstrual hygiene kits, and enterprise development for women. Days for Girls International is located in the United States, and Days for Girls Uganda is based in Kampala.
Job Summary: The Program Manager will provide strategic management in the areas of Days for Girls program development, implementation, monitoring and reporting. This role is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of current and new Days for Girls Programs. S/he works closely with the Uganda Country Director (80%), and the Global Programs team at international HQ (20%).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management
- Develop proposals for programs that will successfully transition Days for Girls training and distribution programs to more long-term development programs;
- Represent Days for Girls and liaise with local and national authorities, NGOs, and businesses to promote DfG programs, facilitate successful coordination of activities and ensure transparency and accountability to all stakeholders;
- Provide technical inputs and assistance to programs with particular reference to financial management and reporting systems;
- Oversee the preparation and submission of annual activity-based project budgets as well as monthly and quarterly financial reports and sending of new funding requests.
- Participate in strategy development conversations with Global Programs team
- Lead and motivate a start-up minded team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
- Ensure project activities comply with the policies and regulations of the donor organization.
- Ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements.
Program Development
- Responsible for assisting in the strengthening and expansion of DfG East Africa programs;
- Responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, lead project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes.
- Draft and editing proposals and reports;
- Follow donor trends and recommend programs that align with DfG and donor missions
- Track project implementation and support DfG response to changes in context, beneficiary needs, and donor positioning.
- Provide timely and adequate input on donor reports;
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, applicable laws, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate the development of internal and external reports, including sharing reporting templates, setting deadlines, coordinate input, and final edit and review.
- Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle.
- Employ resourcefulness in project design, implementation and monitoring. Trouble shoots project problems. Identifies and implements creative solutions
Training/ Capacity Building
- Determine training needs for office staff involved in program development
Compliance
- Establish and oversee a system to track programmatic-related operations and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures, donor regulations and local laws;
- Monitor, evaluate and report on all program activities and progress to the Country Office, HQ, and Donors;
- Assist in the preparation of annual work plans and budgets;
- Report regularly to headquarters, providing timely updates of all situational and project developments and analysis of program risks;
Communication
- Maintain frequent communication with Uganda Director and Global Programs department at HQ to ensure program activities and objectives are met
- Work with, finance officer, enterprise coordinators and M&E Director to ensure the coordination of programs;
- Represent the organization at task force meetings, internal and external coordination meetings
- Interface with national government and/or donors to ensure mutual understanding of programs and maximize resource distribution and allocation of available funds;
- Participate in partnership development and donor meetings as needed
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree or master degree in business, international development, public health or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
- Expert project management and cross-cultural communication skills
- Proven expertise in program and grants management
- Experience building grant management systems
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Experience managing a team and reporting to senior leadership and international HQ
- Competency in Safesforce, Quickbooks, and G Suite applications (Gmail, Google Docs), Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
