The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) is the leading humanitarian organization in Uganda. Since its inception in 1939 as a small women’s emergency organization, URCS has developed over the years into a formidable well-respected humanitarian agency. In 1941, it became a branch of the British Red Cross. The URCS was recognised by an “Act of Parliament in 1964” and admitted as a member of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent in 1965.

Job Summary: The role of the Manager- Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services will be to coordinate and strengthen URCS’ work in Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services as a recognized benchmark for providing quality prehospital care services in all of her markets and that the brand maintains a high profile in first aid training and services, ambulance services, and affordable safety equipment.  The position involves working with URCS First Aid Quality Assurance Team, First Aid Trainers, First Aid Volunteers, Senior Management Team, Partners and Donors to strengthen the Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services Unit and proactively seeking out opportunities for growth of the Unit nationally and internationally.

The Manager Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services Unit will also provide technical advises, practically directs and assists the National Society to provide a first class first aid and ambulance service matched to sustainable business fundraising, research and learning. The ideal candidate blends his/her business management and leadership experience to First Aid and Ambulance services forecasts and growth

Responsible for the implementation of the URCS Resource Mobilization Plan of Action;

Develop strategic fund-raising/resource mobilization work plans and budgets for URCS at both National and Branch level;

Develop, implement and manage the fund-raising / resource mobilization activities and projects for the National Society;

Co-ordinate, monitor and support all fund-raising/resource mobilization projects;

Plan and budget for the required financial resources;

Launch fundraising appeals to pertinent stakeholders on behalf of the URCS to support it with resources to enhance the humanitarian cause;

Ensure good corporate and private resource mobilization relationships;

Initiate and manage business IGA projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and support efficient URCS’ Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services people –centered advocacy campaigns
  • Support overall marketing with a view to mobilize unrestricted funding and funds from both the traditional sources but also creativity and innovative ways.
  • Contribute to a culture of information sharing and organizational learning in social marketing and communications;
  • Disseminate and create a shared vision for Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services internal and external clients whilst ensuring consistency in messages sensitivity to regional cultures and prevailing market conditions.
  • Ensure standardization, and quality standards for Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services Unit are observed and disseminated.
  • Support the development and execution of the national Commercial First Aid & Ambulance marketing strategy and increase demand among end buyers particularly corporates.
  • Build demand for URCS Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Services
  • Develop and manage a core media relations programme including establishment of media contact lists, regular contact with key sector, business and regional journalists, preparation and distribution of regular media updates and input into increased positive online and print media coverage.
  • Identify Uganda Diaspora groups and partnership opportunities and research new market opportunities
  • Support the effective management of Commercial First Aid and Ambulance Unit’s main events and attendance at key industry conferences, workshops, trade shows, bazaars and other relevant public events.
  • Any other relevant emerging tasks as agreed with the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree Marketing, Public Relations, Resource Mobilization and Cooperate Affairs Management, International Business Administration International Relations, Health Sciences or a related field from a reputable institution.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Marketing, Public Relations, BBA, Resource Mobilization and Cooperate Affairs Management or a related field from a reputable institution;
  • Additional professional qualification or certification to a relevant international professional association

Essential Knowledge and Experience           

  • Minimum 4 years in the field of Managing Businesses focusing on health;
  • Familiarity with the broad issues and current debates in international development on Emergency Health and or First Aid and Road Safety.

Essential Skills

  • High level of integrity
  • A team player who enjoys pitching in when required
  • Good knowledge of digital communications tools and tactics including video, updating and maintaining web pages, blogger engagement, social networks, search and digital marketing
  • Experience with research communications or similar, and awareness of good practice in research uptake
  • Comfortable working with Twitter/ other social media, MS Office, SharePoint
  • Attentive to detail, with good visual presentation skills
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively and discreetly with people and information
  • Commitment to URCS values and principles.
