About US:
In 2018, Makerere University College of Health Sciences through the School Public Health (MakSPH) with funding from The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) conducted a study entitled, “Formative Assessment of HIV, Gender-Based Violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health Status among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Uganda”, which was referred to as the “AGYW Study”. This study was conducted in 20 districts of Uganda to generate data necessary to inform the design of interventions aimed at reducing AGYW’s vulnerability to HIV infection, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide HIV and syphilis pre- and post-test counseling as needed
- Deliver HIV and syphilis results to individuals tested as needed
- Refer individuals with HIV and syphilis to appropriate services for HIV and syphilis management
- Participate in field data collection as case may be
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Possession of a certificate in HIV counseling and testing from a recognized Institution Possession of a Certificate in Good Clinical Practice and/or Human
- Practice and/or Human Subjects Protection is an added advantage
- Prior experience with working with adolescents and young people is an added advantage
- Proficiency in both spoken and written English
- Knowledgeable about common local languages spoken in that region
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to follow study specific procedures and guidelines reliably
- Ability to spend an extended period of time in rural areas and away from home
- Willing to reside in the region for the entire study period
- Willing to make regular trips to health facilities in the survey districts
- Ability to work under stringent deadlines and independently with minimal supervision
- Suitable applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related degree.
- Individuals that possess a diploma in Nursing / Midwifery or a related field with three years’ experience in HIV counseling and testing may also be considered for this position
