About US:
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to end pediatric HIV/AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. We are a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15 countries and at 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already HIV infected. The EGPAF Uganda Country Program is seeking to recruit Volunteer Counselors for activities in south west Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Volunteer Counselor will work closely with health workers at a selected health facility to support prevention, treatment, care and access of health services through offering counselling services to clients on care to ensure continuum of care and adherence to treatment.
- She/he will work with patients referred to access and utilize heath care linkage facilitators, VHTs and expert clients to ensure newly identified chronic care clients are enrolled, started on treatment and retained into the available care and support Services.
- She/he will work with health workers to maintain a good appointment and follow up system at the facility and community to ensure patient retention in care.
- She/he will engage and refer/link clients to other health, social and para-legal services to ensure continuum of care and will maintain accurate and up-to-date activity logs and reports.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicants should preferably hold Diplomas in Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies is required. A diploma in in counselling from a recognized institution is a MUST. Additional training in HIV, TB, FP, Malaria, Nutrition, and other health programs is of an added advantage
- At least two years’ experience in providing counselling services in a health setting
- Good counselling and communication skills
- Able to speak fluent English, Runyankole, Rukiga, Rufumbira
- Familiar with local community resources for patients with chronic disease

HIV positive clients who are living positively and can provide peer support are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be paid a monthly stipend of UGX 557,663 subject to all applicable statutory deductions.
