About US:

The Uganda Biodiversity Fund (UBF) is an independent Institution, ‘a Trust Fund’ established as a mechanism to provide sustainable financing for the conservation of priority biodiversity and ecosystem services in Uganda. The mission of UBF is: “to serve as a catalyst for mobilizing, managing and channeling financial resources for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Uganda for the benefit of current and future generations and the intrinsic value of nature”. UBF has been implementing programmatic and management activities and undertaking financial transactions since 2017.

Job Summary:   The Grants Officer (GO) will work in the Programs Department focusing on implementation of the UBF Biodiversity Funding Program through the Granting process.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Support grant-making process from start to finish including:

  • Giving support to acquisition of proposals, proposal evaluation and shortlisting of Sub-Grantees to be considered for grant awards
  • Supporting supervision of grant agreements with the grant recipients (grantees)
  • Ensuring compliance with UBF Grants Manual, USG and or other donors’ requirements, and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring implementation of grantees’ projects to ensure achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Reviewing and assessing submitted sub-awardee technical reports to ensure compliance; and compiling periodic reports detailing grantee performance.
  • Maintaining an updated information system of on-going Sub-grants and ensuring effective capture, storage and analysis of all relevant data, keeping all documentation related to management of the grants accurate and up to date.
  • Supporting capacity building efforts targeting grantees
  • Ensure accurate grant close-out processes
  • Any other delegated activity.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The Grants Officer must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Biodiversity Conservation, with postgraduate qualification in monitoring and evaluation or grants management.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in program and or project development and management, plus targeted experience in M+E or grants management.
  • Experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably USAID.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating, coordinating and working with local institutions.
  • Ability to manage USAID grants agreements, and all required reporting requirements.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and under pressure; advanced working knowledge of MS Office.
