About US:
Mandela National Stadium often referred to as Namboole Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kampala, Uganda. It is currently used mostly for football matches, although other sports are also practiced. The stadium has a capacity of 40,202 people. The stadium was built with a grant of $36 million dollars from the People’s Republic of China. The 40,202 capacity sports complex was built with a $36m Chinese government grant and opened in 1997.
Job Summary: The Business Development Manager works to improve stadium’s market position and achieve financial growth. This person defines long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. It is their job to increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for the stadium. To achieve this, S/he needs to find potential new customers, present to them, ultimately convert them into clients, and continue to grow business in the future. The Business Development Manager will also help manage existing clients and ensure they stay satisfied and positive.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maximize all opportunities within existing and allocated accounts and proactively develop an expanded new customer base;
- To research and target specific market segments through sales and marketing activities to deliver revenue, whilst penetrating existing clients for new contacts, business and revenue streams;
- Compile account plan for top accounts;
- When not in the field to remain proactive with activity and client communication;
- To deliver monthly revenue and activity reports as specified by the Managing Director;
- To maintain contact with key accounts through face-to-face telephone, written, direct mail activity and client events;
- To lead Account Management activity and drive the action plans for accounts;
- To support the sales team in taking and converting enquiries;
- To represent the stadium at industry networking events (as appropriate and required);
- Coordinate and lead familiarization tours for key event agents and corporate clients ensuring those guests attending are key influencers and decision makers;
- Monitor competitor activities including special promotions and pricing initiatives;
- Keeping up to date with industry trends and best practice;
- Work to close proximity for the event and sales team to identify new and maximize exciting sales opportunities;
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein;
Key Deliverables:
- Achievement of personal KPI targets and weekly activity targets
- Achievement of team budgets
- Achievement of agreed new business targets
- Working towards the agreed budgeted revenue for non-match day events
- Management and delivery of account plans
- Accurate weekly reports and forecasts
- Accurate and timely handover information to the co-ordination team
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a relevant Master’s degree, A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing bias) or Marketing and / or professional qualification in Marketing (CIMA).
- A postgraduate qualification in business or hospitality management will be highly valued.
- At least five (5) years of experience three (3) years of which should have been at a similar role in the Sports & Recreation Industry
- Should be experienced in producing and achieving sales plans/targets and developing business strategy
- Self-driven, result oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and business profitability
- Understands the principles of marketing and advertising cost –effectiveness including market targeting, officer development, sales pitches, networking, etc
- Excellent communication skills both on the phone, in person and written;
- Must show initiative and be a confident presenter and negotiator;
- Must be “customer oriented” with an understanding of Sports & Recreation
- Must be able to establish positive relationships with clients
- Honesty, integrity and a strong sense of ethics
- Must be able to present a highly professional image when representing MNS
- Must demonstrate a thorough approach to work and able to organize him / herself effectively
- Must have a clean and full driving license
