Job Summary:  The Gender and Protection Assistant has a dual role of implementing the UNDP Protection and Gender programme interventions, as well as ensuring protection and gender mainstreaming across the programme.

Provide technical support in relation to relevant child protection and gender standards; mainstream child protection and gender in all project implementation, and ensure adherence to child protection minimum standards in humanitarian action (SPHERE Standards) and principles as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Train staff, stakeholders, partners and community structures members on Gender and Protection, humanitarian protection, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and sexual and gender based violence (SGBV).
  • Conduct community dialogue and meetings with community, community structures and stake holders on SGBV and PSEA
  • Partners engagement, networking and coordination with respect to gender and protection
  • Conduct onsite case management on issues related to CFW assistance, protection and gender
  • Map out key actors in PSEA and SGBV in all the settlements for referrals and linkages.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the World Vision Gender and Protection Assistant job must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Psychology or Mental Health related courses
  • Two years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts.
  • In addition to education requirements, the individuals need to possess the following skills to succeed in this field:
  • Interpersonal skills: Because this career is about studying and helping individuals, you will need to have strong interpersonal skills, meaning that you will need to relate well to people.
  • Communication skills: Professionals whose work involves talking and listening to clients must have excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Patience: Treatment takes a lot of time. Therefore, you will need a lot of patience to see treatment through to its conclusion.
  • Trustworthiness: A psychologist must be trustworthy, as they are expected to keep patient information confidential.
  • Empathy: You must have the ability to understand and identify with another person’s experiences to help them understand the cause of their feelings.
  • Critical thinking skills: A psychologist must have strong critical thinking skills to determine an accurate diagnosis and develop a proper treatment plan
  • Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages preferred especially Caring for Child Survivors of Sexual Violence, psychological First Aid in Emergencies, CPiE Minimum Standards, and GBV IMS, International Humanitarian & Human Rights Law Foundations.
  • Fluency in English both spoken and written and knowledge of one of the local languages (Madi, Arabic, Luo and Kiswahili) spoken in the area is an added advantage
