Reports to: Inspectorate and Quality Assurance Manager
About US:
The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council is a semi-autonomous Health Professional Regulatory and supervisory body under Ministry of Health; established by the Nurses and Midwives Act, 1996 to regulate and supervise the provision of quality nursing and midwifery services to the public. Its mandate is to set and regulate standards of nursing and midwifery training and practice and provide professional guidance for public safety.
Job Summary: The Regional Supervisor will mainly coordinate UNMC activities to ensure public safety within the respective areas of the office jurisdiction
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participating in the general supervision and regulation over all the nursing and midwifery; professionals and health facilities, Health Training Institutions for nurses and midwives in the region;
- Participating in the investigation charges of malpractice, negligence or misconduct against a professional and make a full report to the Supervisor of the facts and circumstances of the charges;
- Maintaining and updating database in relation to nursing and midwifery professions in the region;
- Working in collaboration with the District Health Supervisory Authorities in the region;
- Reporting the name of any nursing and midwifery professional convicted of an offence and the nature of the offence committed as soon as the conviction comes to your knowledge;
- Reporting the death of any registered nurse or midwife as soon as information on death comes to your knowledge;
- Inspecting all nursing and midwifery health facilities in the region applying for registration and renewal of operational license and advise on their suitability to offer the health services;
- Inspecting any nursing or midwifery health facility with Enforcement Officer if necessary to certify whether provisions of the Nurses and Midwives Act are being complied with;
- Disseminating information from the head office to the relevant stakeholders in the region; and
- Sensitizing Nurses and Midwives about renewal of license, professional code of ethics for Nurses and Midwives among other things
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelors of Nursing Science or Midwifery Science from a recognized awarding institution
- Training in Health Services Management is a requirement
- The Applicant MUST have a valid Practicing License in nursing or midwifery profession
- At least three years of experience in a large and busy organization at the level of a Nursing Officer
- The candidate must possess a high level of integrity and professionalism
- Ability to work as a team player
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure
- Knowledgeable in ICT
- Good interpersonal skills
- Effective time manager
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
