Job Summary: The IT Assistant will deliver standard software and hardware support services, as well as monitoring and maintaining a wide range of information sources, to contribute to the effective delivery of IT services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain inventories of materials, such as, computer and related equipment, telecommunications equipment, biometrics verification equipment, etc;
- Maintain logs or archives of information, such as application logs, trouble tickets, directories, registries, data warehouses, reports, etc;
- Assist in the deployment/dissemination of ICT equipment and software, such as, computer hardware and/or software, applications, programs, directories, telephony, database content, training material, etc;
- Undertake basic monitoring and pro-active troubleshooting of server systems, power systems and telecommunications links to ensure a consistent delivery of IT services to staff and partner organizations like UNHCR.
- Assist in the maintenance of systems and equipment by carrying out routine tasks, such as backing up data, physical cleaning of servers and peripheral equipment, running systems diagnostics, patch management and system optimization, removing viruses and bad data, etc;
- Administer user access to systems and databases, monitor system and application usage;
- Assist in the installation of LAN, WAN and Power infrastructure at WFP warehouses and food distribution points;
- Assist in resolution of IT equipment, telecommunications and power problems by responding to incident reports and user queries through the identification and troubleshooting of issues and where necessary forwarding unresolved issues to the appropriate person.
- Provide statistical reports from IT systems at the end of each food distribution;
- Assist in the preparation of standard operating procedures, work instructions and user manuals related to the management of food distributions;
- Assist in training and support of users of technology and systems, such as beneficiary biometric verification, audio/videoconferences, meetings, databases, registries, LAN and WAN networks, etc;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) IT Assistant job should hold a university degree in the related functional area.
- Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
- Academic or professional experience in computer science.
- Previous experience in electronic data collection will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge and experience of the area context, knowledge of local language is an added
Competencies:
- Governance, Strategy and Architecture: Demonstrates awareness of overall IT governance structure and system architecture development to support the process and assist in design of interaction between systems
- Change Implementation, Project management, Planning and Optimization: Has basic understanding of project management principles to provide basic estimates on timing, resource utilisation and costs to facilitate the project planning process.
- Technical Expertise: Understands technical aspects of own job and applies them in a thorough and systematic manner to analyze customer’s technical issues and offer value adding advice and/or solutions.
- Service Management: Understands and follows the established standards and protocols for service excellence within own domain to maintain quality of delivery and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Client Management: Demonstrates working understanding of existing hardware, software, servers and network management to resolve users’ routine problems using WFP’s established processes and tools.
- Procurement and Contract Management: Assists in the technology selection process by collating information on vendors and/or products for evaluation against criteria.
Desired:
- Academic or professional experience in computer science.
- Has experience resolving level 1 IT issues.
