About Yalelo (U) Limited: Yalelo is an established tilapia fish farm in Uganda, part of a larger group with operations across Africa. The farm, located in Butembe, Buikwe district, specializes in tilapia farming and is a leader in aquaculture.
Job Summary:
The Senior Production Manager will lead the Production division, encompassing Lake Operations, Hatchery, and Laboratory departments. This role requires a professional with at least seven years of experience in aquaculture or animal production, possessing a solid theoretical and practical background.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee tilapia production, including breeding, hatchery, growth, and harvesting.
- Manage breeding schedules and adapt production to environmental changes to meet market demands.
- Drive optimization within the Production team for maximum biological potential of the fish.
- Undertake focused research on various aquaculture aspects and monitor the quality of marketed fish.
- Oversee a Selective Breeding Program for long-term production optimization.
- Manage Broodstock through their lifecycle, ensuring effective selection and nutrition.
- Understand and manage water quality, stocking density, and conduct growth trials.
- Develop SOPs, project feasibility studies, and manage annual budgets and expenses.
- Implement health and safety protocols and manage compliance within the division.
- Utilize KPIs and OKRs for performance management and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly production planning.
- Supervise team development and capacity building, including coaching and mentoring initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science, Animal Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of management experience in aquaculture or fisheries.
- Practical experience in fish husbandry and health monitoring.
- Familiarity with Biosecurity Programs and protocols.
- Experience in managing large-scale freshwater cage operations and hatcheries is preferred.
- Skills in fish counting, grading, transfer equipment, and processes are desirable.
- Proficiency in English and a valid international driver’s license are required.
Additional Skills:
- Competency in MS Office, especially Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for presentations.
- Familiarity with digital management systems and ERP’s (e.g., AquaManager, MS Dynamics 365).
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.
- Capability to adapt and enhance operations in response to changing conditions and strategies.
- Experience managing large indigenous workforces in Africa.
- Boat master certificate, strong swimming skills, and SCUBA certification are advantageous.
