CARE International is implementing the Women and Youth empowerment program (WAY) in partnership with UNFPA.

Job Summary:  The Adolescent and Youth sexual reproductive health and gender based violence coordinator will be a self-driven team player with innovative skills in building staff competencies in standardising CARE’s AY SRHR implementation tools and guidelines/strategies; developing technical competencies of staff and partners on AY SRHR and GBV to support program implementation. He/She will be responsible for networking/linking the project/organisation to national and international AY SRH/ GBV alliances feeding into the programme’s advocacy plans; support in the development of ASRH/GBV tools that will support the project team and partners implement the project using a gender transformative approach. Supervise the rolling out of the primary and secondary school clubs SRH/GBV program. Engage primary and secondary school teachers, communities, traditional and religious institutions to change cultural norms and practices around ASRH/ GBV. Raise awareness and lead the promotion of Uganda’s national policy on GBV prevention, anti-alcohol abuse, GBV referral mechanism and facilitate access to SRH & GBV services.  He/She will work closely with the Initiative Manager in implementing the adolescent and youth reproductive health and GBV components of the WAY program in the eight districts of West Nile and Northern Uganda namely; Moyo, Adjumani, Arua, Agago, Amuru, Aleptong, Pader, Kitgum and Lamwo.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the CARE International Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health & Gender based violence coordinator job placement should preferably hold a Master’s degree Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (ASRH&R) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Social Work, Public Health or any other related field, or relevant Post graduate qualification.
  • Advanced knowledge and at least five years of prove practical experience technically supporting gender transformative approaches.
  • Managerial Experience and skills in effectively supervising technical specialists and managing performance for success in technical support teams with a focus on gender transformative approaches.
  • Five years of hands on professional experience in community development work (including working with institutions, understanding their culture, breaking taboos in conversations, ability to discuss sensitive topics such as masculinity and sexuality in a sensitive but direct way) with experience implementing gender transformative programs a must.
  • Knowledge and strong skills in M&E, report writing and documentation.
