Background of YMCA Uganda
The Uganda Young Men’s Christian Association is an autonomous charitable Organization, which was founded in 1959 through joint efforts of the YMCA of U.S.A and some Ugandans. Uganda YMCA has its headquarters at Wandegeya Kampala and has affiliates/partners both nationally and internationally.
The institution’s primary aims focus on improving the quality of life of the People, particularly the youth and other vulnerable groups such as the women. Members are encouraged to participate in YMCA programs which would awaken their minds, bodies and spirit and in addition equip them with long life skills, attitudes and morals with intention to help them live as good Christian citizens of their country and the world at large.
Furthermore, the programs offered at YMCA, are anticipated in turn to help the people to contribute positively to the growth of peace/justice and to promote harmonious co-existence of our people.
The multi faceted YMCA programs are offered in six Branches spread over 120 clubs that are scattered around country. The Uganda YMCA branches are Kampala, Jinja, Mukono, Mbarara, Mbale and Kasese.
MISSION STATEMENT
The institution endevours to achieve a sustainable development of full humanity through it’s programs with particular emphasis on the youth and the vulnerable groups and society at large through team work, transparancy and observance of the christian ideas and principles.
OBJECTIVES
» To develop Christian character and other morals that promotes people’s Physical social, aconomic, mental and spiritual growth.
» To promote self-reliance and capacity building among the youth and others, through its programs.
» To enhance close cooperation with other organizations whose aims and Objectives are geared towards building a society that cares for others in Need.
» To promote outreach community activities among the people.
» To enhance co-existence amongst the people through YMCA recreational programs and others
