Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarships

Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarships; The Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management (CoMEM), is a two-year English taught international Master’s programme.

The programme is offered by a consortium of five recognised European universities:

1) The Norwegian Univerisity of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway
2) Polytechnic University of Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain
3) Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands
4) City University London, United Kingdom
5) University of Southampton, United Kingdom.

During the programme, students study in two or three different countries depending on the individual track of study.

All participating universities have long-standing relations with the industry, public works administrations and research and education institutes.

During the course students familiarise themselves with key issues involved in providing sustainable, environmentally friendly, legally and economically acceptable solutions to various problems in the CoMEM field.

Studying in different European countries will enable students to meet and work with professionals from various backgrounds and to gather knowledge on a wide range of issues involved; they will also get a comprehensive EU perspective on CoMEM related issues. This will help students to develop a coherent and integrated approach that is applicable to a more global perspective as well.

Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarships – Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for Students

Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for students accepted to CoMEM. The CoMEM universities select candidates in a competitive process from among eligible applicants, and forward the names to the European Commission for approval under the Erasmus Mundus Programme.

Please note that candidates DO NOT apply directly to the Commission for funding. All applications are to be made directly to the CoMEM programme.

The process and basis for a receiving a Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarship is:

1) application
2) acceptance to the programme and then
3) selection for a scholarship.
Candidates who are awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship are required to complete the entire 2-year long CoMEM program, and will receive their degrees only upon completion of the full program. Completion of year 1 alone, for instance, will not be recognized with a degree.

Eligibility for Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarships

There are two types of scholarship offered by the European Commission.

Non EU-students, i.e. students accepted to CoMEM who DO NOT come from any of the EU countries, and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in the EU countries, are eligible for “Category A” scholarships.

Financial Conditions

The value of the scholarships is a total of € 48 000 for Category A, and € 20 000 for Category B for the duration of the programme (two academic years).

CoMEM participation cost are € 8,000 per academic year (16,000 total for two years) for Non-EU students; and € 4,000 per academic year (8,000 total for two years) for EU-students.

On the basis of a written agreement, the applicable fee is directly deducted by the Consortium from the students’ Erasmus Mundus scholarships.

The remainder of the scholarship (€ 16,000 per academic year for Category A and € 6,000 per academic year for Category B scholarship recipients) is paid to the students’ bank accounts in monthly instalments.

Applying for Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management Scholarships

Candidates who wish to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship will need to indicate this in the on-line application form.

Scholarship applicants will however have to provide all relevant information for the consortium to determine scholarship category, particularly information on citizenship and residence in the past five years.

Applicants wishing to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship may apply for no more than two other Erasmus Mundus programmes in addition to CoMEM. In case a student applies to more than three EM programmes he/she will be excluded from the selection for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.
