Reach Out Mbuya delivers comprehensive health care services through four clinics, multiple mobile outreaches and public-private partnerships within Kampala, Wakiso, Nakaseke and Luweero.

Job Summary:  The Communications and Public Relations Officer will promote ROM’s image by communicating the impact of the organization interventions and other public relations efforts to various levels of stakeholders through ensuring regular information dissemination using various relevant channels. The role primarily to be accomplished through ROM’s social media and more traditional media platforms including newspapers, magazines, TV and radio. It shall include developing communication plans, developing and maintaining media network and ensuring visibility of ROM.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, review and implement communication and PR strategies and budgets.
  • Manage and coordinate ROM events calendar and oversee the planning, coordination and logistics of functions.
  • Lead the design, review, update and maintenance of the ROM website.
  • Ensure timely production of ROM publications i.e. newsletters, blogs, annual reports, IEC materials, brochures, client success stories etc.
  • Lead and manage the media relations; develop a network with key media houses and other relevant stakeholders and serve as a focal point for ROM press and media events.
  • Work closely with the ROM’s Programme Staff and Management to identify results-based stories and enhance the capacity of staff’s communication skills, including participating in field visits.
  • Arrange for, receive and guide visitors to ROM, and where need be link them with other sections and organizations to receive them.
  • Ensure adequate branding at ROM functions.
  • Ensure proper usage of ROM corporate identity both within and outside of ROM.
  • Custodian of the organization photo bank and all PR equipment.
  • Supervise the Front Office Desk Assistant.
  • Promote the vision, mission and the values of ROM’s as expressed in the policies, regulations & guidelines of the organization.

  • Technical support on PR and communication provided across ROM units
  • Informative and timely publications produced and disseminated

  • Regular ROM positive media presence
  • ROM’s website regularly updated and search engine optimized

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Mass communication or any other relevant discipline; Diploma in relevant discipline with at least five years’ experience in a similar role is acceptable;
  • Minimum working experience: three years in a similar position in a private company or larger NGO.
  • Specialized knowledge required: Excellent writing and oral communication skills – News article and blog writing plus organization social media management experience is an added advantage.
  • Skills: Computer, Interpersonal, and Communication and Public Relations skills
  • Attributes: Articulate, Creative, Ability to work under pressure and Self-driven.
