About US:
The Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) is a multi-donor funding mechanism aimed at strengthening governance, promoting and protecting human rights, enhancing access to justice, and improving accountability in Uganda by working with state and non-state institutions at national, regional and district levels throughout the country. It is funded by Austria, Denmark, European Union, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
Job Summary: The Driver provides efficient and effective transport service to DGF staff, ensures that all the relevant documentation with respect to the vehicles are kept up to date and maintains the vehicle in perfect running condition.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive staff to and from their destinations on time and ensure safety of the passengers and the vehicle at all times, in compliance with the Ugandan traffic laws and in line with the Royal Danish Embassy security regime policy for drivers.
- Complete and sign the daily travel log sheet and monitor fuel card usage regularly to ensure availability of fuel for the car as and when required and ensure that all information required is properly recorded and legible.
- Deliver mail to required destinations and ensure that mail is picked from the Royal Danish Embassy every morning of all working days and that all mail received and delivered is duly signed for in the designated mail delivery books.
- Maintain a vehicle diary to record any events that will support the travel logs in case of audit queries and ensure that vehicle routine maintenance service is carried out promptly and the vehicle is kept clean and presentable.
- Ensure that all legal requirements for the vehicle are up to date e.g. vehicle license, road tax, insurance, etc.
- Record all repairs done whilst on field trips (no matter how small) in the vehicle file and discuss any other maintenance issues with the Administration & Logistics Manager for further action.
- Monitor the performance of the vehicle through calculating the average kilometers covered per litre on a monthly basis and inform the Administration & Logistics Manager if average falls below 7 km per litre.
- Assist with set up of venues for workshops and loading up after workshops and carry out any other duties as assigned by the Administration & Logistics Manager.
- Ensure availability during working, as well as after hours as and when required.
- Report accidents involving the vehicle to the Administration & Logistics Manager as soon as they happen.
- In alignment with the HR manual, maintain confidentiality about DGF and DGF implementing partners.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant should have at least an ‘O’ level certificate.
- A valid driving permit with at least two classes
- Three years driving experience with an organization involving up country travel.
- Available for regular multi-day up country partner visits.
- Good knowledge of the Kampala area and upcountry routes
- Flexibility
- Good command of spoken English
- High level of discipline and integrity
- Ability to exercise patience
- Ability to take initiative and act promptly
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to visualise simple mechanical faults and problems
- Good human relations/interpersonal skills
- Defensive driving skills would be an advantage
- Ability to fix simple mechanical faults involving the vehicle on the road
- Ability to pick official calls whenever needed in line with the traffic regulations.
