Uganda Airlines is the flag carrier of Uganda. The company is a revival of the older Uganda Airlines which operated from 1977 until 2001. It began flying in August 2019.

Job Summary: The Duty Manager will be responsible for a safe, seamless and efficient airport operation in order that Uganda Airlines’ image, reputation, and Customer Service Levels are maintained and enhanced to the highest standards. S/he will have a tight focus on on-time performance (OTP) and punctuality of all Uganda Airlines flights. Ensure and maintain a healthy, safe, secure and cost-effective airport operation for Uganda Airlines, in compliance with the relevant industry regulatory and legislative requirements, company procedures and regulatory authorities. Responsible for coordination of all passenger handling activities at Entebbe Hub during operations. Drive continuous improvement in delivering the highest quality of customer service and punctuality in order to meet the needs and expectations of our customers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure the cost-effective delivery of all ground handling services (passenger check-in, airport experience, baggage handling, and ramp handling).
  • Drive “On-Time Performance” culture (OTP) within the airport team and constantly engage all stakeholders to maintain the highest performance.
  • Organize and structure the station to meet the current and future needs of Uganda National Airlines Company Limited.
  • Implement plans to improve the safety and security of Uganda Airline’s airport operations.
  • Interpret and monitor safety standards, regulations and security awareness.
  • Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents, and accidents as well as maintaining a risk register in the station.
  • Prepare Daily, Weekly and Monthly Station Reports on Ground Handling activity.
  • Support and develop a high-performance team capable of achieving results by meeting the set benchmarks with minimum supervision.
  • Where necessary, file flight plans to comply with legal and company requirements to ensure aircraft operations safety.
  • Train and develop airport staff and ensure all staff training aligns with the strategic and business requirements of Uganda National Airlines.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe & secure working environment in compliance with relevant legislative/industry requirements.
  • Ensure that airport operation at the station is provided with the necessary resources and conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, organization standards, and local procedures as well as IATA /ICAO international requirements.
  • Ensure that all airport services operations non-compliances (audit findings) are reported from an evaluation process and closed within the stipulated time frame. Action should include identifying and addressing the root causes of the non-compliances.
  • Represent Uganda Airlines at the Airport Operators Committee (AOC) and update the business.
  • Establish and manage contacts at the highest level with the clients to enhance the airline image and facilitate the flow of information to maintain the edge over competitors.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the Uganda Airlines Duty Manager job must be a University Graduate (Or 10 years’ relevant experience in lieu of a University Degree).
  • IATA Diploma or equivalent airline/aviation training courses.
  • At least 3 -7 years at managerial level with a reputable airline (or reputable ground handling company); 3 years of which must have been in charge of a recognized airline hub in a similar role.
  • Excellent management and communication skills.
  • Load Control Training.
  • IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). Category 6 will be an added advantage.
  • ICAO Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Aviation Safety and Security (AVSEC) Training.
  • Airside Safety and Ramp Supervision Training.
  • Strong business management and revenue maximization skills.
  • Impeccable integrity and diligence.

  • Five (5) years or more airline or ground handling experience in a similar role.
  • Responsibility for setting and delivering standards.
  • Experience in managing large numbers of people.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality.
  • Professionalism.
