Job Summary: The Education Project Assistant will assist in the day to day implementation of the Education project. The Education Project Assistant will report to the Education Project Officer. He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day running of activities among refugees in Kampala. The incumbent will closely work with the teachers, learners and the community members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Distribute and monitor the use of school materials according to procedures
- Administer teachers’ and school children’s payments and entitlements
- Ensure community mobilization/sensitization on Education and other related activities.
- Ensure community participation, contribution and ownership in the Education program Provide on-site support supervision and feedback to Education teachers and Head teachers and Instructors.
- Carry out home visits to Education learners/students and take part in discussing issues that affect the child as a mentoring process.
- Liaise with community leaders to ensure that Out-of-School Children (OOSC) benefit from Education activities.
- Identify community concerns that hinder the enrollment of children in school, retention and completion and recommend measures to address them.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on activities within each school with relevant data
- Inspect and supervise regularly all the Education centers/schools.
- Ensure a constructive co-operation with local authorities and host schools in implementing Education activities.
- Assist in identification and registration of learners (database)
- Assist in updating learners and teachers’ database.
- Participate in relevant meetings including coordination meetings with other education partners at field level
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Education Project Assistant job must hold a Bachelor in education/Social Sciences/Community Based Education.
- Registered with Ministry of Education and Sports and in possession of registration certificate
- Have demonstrated Teaching experience of five years and above.
- Be able to work harmoniously with the refugees and host communities.
- Excellent Computer skills (Ms. Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
- Ability to speak any local language commonly spoken by the beneficiaries (e.g Runyakitara, swahili )
- Knowledge of the local context and education systems in Uganda
