About US:
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the petroleum industry.
Job Summary: The Environment Officer Monitoring will support environmental monitoring programmes and contribute to sound environment management of oil and gas activities. He/she reports to the Senior Environment Officer.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake environmental monitoring of oil and gas activities for compliance with environmental legal and regulatory framework and industry best practices and standards.
- Contribute to the development of internal guidelines, procedures, and manuals to facilitate planning, implementation, monitoring and inspection of environment aspects in the oil and gas sector.
- Contribute to the development of systems for monitoring and collection of environmental data for environment management in the oil and gas sector.
- Participate in review of Environmental reports and related technical documents.
- Advise on best practices for environmental management in the oil and gas industry.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address environmental concerns related to the oil and gas industry.
- Investigate and support coordination of response to environmental incidents in the oil and gas sector.
- Undertake research and analysis on emerging environmental aspects in the oil and gas sector including climate change and energy transition.
- Provide technical guidance to ensure integration of oil and gas aspects during the development/revision of environmental policies, laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Undertake any other assignments as may be directed from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Honor’s Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Sciences from an internationally recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience.
- Analytical skills.
- Teamwork and Interpersonal skills.
- Innovative with high level of integrity.
- Communication and report writing skills.
