Job Summary:
The Financial Accountant will prepare statutory financial statements for audit and publication, complying with International Financial Reporting Standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves ensuring the effective operation of internal controls and reports to the Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare financial statements in line with IAS and IFRS guidelines and support schedules.
- Timely submission of statutory returns (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) to Bank of Uganda, NSSF, Uganda Revenue Authority, and remittances to statutory bodies.
- Maintain an accurate fixed assets register.
- Coordinate internal and external audits; address issues raised by reviewers.
- Manage a database for external reviewers’ recommendations and follow-up.
- Update relevant policies and monitor compliance with regulatory ratios.
- Review payments for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain the fixed assets register and authorize vouchers and entries.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Finance.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA (at least level III) or equivalent is desirable.
- Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and team collaboration ability.
