CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda, a Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) Christian hospital specialized in pediatric neurosurgery and integrated spiritual ministry. CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda is a specialized children’s neurosurgery hospital in Uganda. It is a private hospital, owned and operated by CURE International. The hospital is also a teaching center in pediatric neurosurgery for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Job Summary:  The IT & Database Associate will support the IT& Health Information function of the Hospital.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Systems Administration Engineering & Provisioning

  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hard ware, archive directories and storage in accordance with standards and operational requirements.
  • Research & recommend innovative and where possible automated tasks for systems administration.

Data Management

  • Real technical literature and participation in continuing education or professional associations to maintaining awareness of current database technology and best practices.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy or proper usage of the Health Electronic System.
  • Write work instruction manuals, data capture guidelines. Train staff on technical procedures or on the Health Electronic system usage.
  • Work with the IT and Health Information Administrator to formulate and document Department / IT related policies.
  • Collects data from a variety of sources organizes the data as directed for the specific database he’s working in, then enters it into the databases.
  • Conducts monitoring of appropriate primary and secondary sources to update database.
  • Identifies maintenance and enhancement issues relating to database design and integration with new and existing applications and systems (local and web-based).
  • Works with the IT & Health Information Administrator to formulate and document database policies, processes, procedures, and standards relating to data entry/maintenance
  • Read technical literature and participate in continuing education or professional associations, to maintain awareness of current database, technology & best practices
  • Develop project specific data management plans that address issues such as reporting, user interfaces then communicate the needs to the developer.

Quality Control

  • Check databases for changes and errors and to make corrections cross-referencing database records against paper records to verify the accuracy of specific data.
  • Ensures that data integrity issues are identified and proactively addressed. Alerting management and making process recommendations to prevent errors.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Monitors database activity and use and prepares monthly status reports.
  • Generate reports and documents required.

Database Training

  • Help to train co-workers or clients who have access to databases; showing them how to access and use a database, or outlining the appropriate procedures for making or requesting database changes.

Operations and Support

  • Create, change and delete user accounts per request.

Manage/handle IT help desk issues.

  • Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability hardware, server/ computer resources.
  • Support maintain and upgrade the hospital and telephone network.
  • Perform backup operations, ensuring all required files and data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
  • Repair and recover from hardware/software failures.

Maintenance

  • Apply operating systems/software license upon new installations.
  • Perform regular updates of computer antivirus.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of IT equipment.
  • Coordinate / follow-up without sourced IT related service.
  • Develop and schedule a maintenance plan for computers, photocopier and printers.

Office Support

  • Provides technical support in the use of personal computer hardware, software, and specialized mainframe technology or operates a multi- platform, complex computer environment or monitor the production scheduling, execution, and successful completion of production jobs
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and maintenance for computer equipment (e.g. microcomputers, disk drives, and laser printers) tests personal computers and peripherals on a network to diagnose, hardware versus software problems and escalates corrective procedures to other technical resources as appropriate
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Reporting

  • Generate data reports as per the client requirement.
  • Create reporting templates on google sheets.

Occupational Health & Safety observed

  • All staff are expected to work in such a way that does not cause injury to themselves, other staff members or patients.
  • Following & complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to your own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
  • Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in IT or Computer Science, Database management, or related discipline a computer-related field with data processing training, computer operations training, or experience in a multi-operation system or production control environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of hardware, software, database management, and operation systems. Basic knowledge of network protocols and some experience with computer applications and operating systems. May be tested on appropriate computer skills as required
