Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) is one of the constituent research institutions under the Uganda National Health Research Organization (UNHRO). UVRI has a broad mission to carry out scientific investigations on communicable diseases of public health importance and to advise government on strategies for their control and prevention.
Job Summary: The Laboratory Quality Officer will work under the Head of Department, together with other laboratory Managers to ensure the Department’s vision, mission, values, strategic plan, work plans, work products and services are in line with the Institute’s and partners strategies, goals and objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Defines, implements and monitors standards of performance in quality control and quality improvement by ensuring that laboratory testing systems provide quality laboratory services for preanalytical, analytical and post analytical phases of testing.
- Maintains and ensures that the high quality specimens are received and maintained to the same level of quality through their entire life span with in the laboratory.
- Ensures existence of a safe and secure work environment to both technical and support staff and the immediate surrounding by ensuring availability and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, timely servicing of equipment, and safe disposal of laboratory waste.
- Accurately collates and maintains files and records for the UVRI Zoonotics laboratories.
- Files are to include personnel files, quality assurance data, accreditation information, meeting summaries and minutes.
- The incumbent is responsible for coordinating activities required to achieve and maintain accreditation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor of Sciences, MSC, and a certificate in accreditation will be an added advantage.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, planning and leadership skills
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- An understanding and appreciation of other people’s work disciplines,
- Knowledge of methodologies of quality assurance and standards
- Proven experience as quality Manager or relevant role
- Reliable and trustworthy.
