NITA-U, under the Ministry of Information Communications Technology and National Guidance, is a statutory body established to coordinate, promote, and monitor IT development in Uganda. With a mandate to foster social and economic development, NITA-U is at the forefront of IT innovation and regulation in the country.

Job Summary:

As a Management Trainee in Legal Services, you will support regulatory activities, including licensing and legal services related to the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, and other relevant laws. This role involves stakeholder engagement, contract review, legal advisory, and corporate secretarial services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage stakeholders on awareness and sensitization of the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
  • Implement processes for maintaining and updating the Data Protection Register.
  • Review and draft contracts in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Ensure publications reflect the correct legal position.
  • Develop guidance on key areas under the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
  • Provide corporate secretarial services and legal advice.
  • Collaborate with government ministries and departments on legal matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (Hons.) from a recognized university.
  • Training in Data Protection and Privacy is advantageous.
  • At least one year of experience in providing legal advice in a reputable organization or law firm.
  • Experience in sensitizing masses about various laws is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of Data Protection and Privacy laws.
  • Ability to produce results with minimal supervision and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent presentation, listening, and communication skills.
  • Resilience and a team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.
