Job Summary:  The Reconciliation Officer will effectively Reconcile Control and Reconcilable GLs Bank wise. The incumbent will also ensure that all allocated accounts within the Bank are balancing and Business Rules are observed. The incumbent will ensure allocated snap checks are carried out promptly.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Business Management

  • Ensure that Reconcilable GLs are maintained properly with no pending entries.
  • Adhere to control processes to ensure that all elements of operational risk e.g. fraud, are eliminated
  • Contribute to or support recommendations on changes in operational procedures that relate to Reconciliation’s functions.
  • Ensure that any need for changes to business rules is communicated to Head of Reconciliation for discussion in the Balance sheet Review Committee meeting Monitor and ensure exceptional items are tracked.
  • Ensure that exceptional items are escalated to the Account Owners, Head of Reconciliation as stipulated in the Business Rules and escalation Matrix.
  • Identify reconciliation ‘hot spot’; and communicate these to Head of reconciliation and discuss the different resolutions alternatives.
  • Ensure the reports for items with value GBP 10,000 and above is circulated to responsible people before 3.00 PM daily.
  • Ensure Business Rules are observed on the items on the Internal GLs.
  • Ensuring that high auto match rate set is met.
  • Share knowledge with those in and outside reconciliation through trainings.
  • Raise with respective teams e.g. risk and individuals e.g. team leaders, any concerns that may be identified during review.
  • Ensure good quality of all outgoing correspondences and ensure incoming correspondences is attended to promptly within SLA.
  • This is a generic role to be carried out within all of the Barclays Africa centralized operations processing sites, and the role holder may be required to work flexibly across a variety of different activities

Risk, Governance and Regulatory

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.”
  • Be in control of the processes to ensure minimum losses.
  • Responsible for implementing appropriate controls that cover the level risk for the business
  • Responsible for dealing with minor challenges (relating to Internal accounts) e.g. preparing and sensing of missing feeds.
  • Follow up to make sure that corrective action has been taken on exceptional items.
  • Monitoring & ensuring reduction of the number of outstanding exceptional items.
  • Identify and suggest change initiatives that affect Reconciliation Dept.
  • Investigate all exceptions and advise the responsible team ensuring correction action is take.

Self-development

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Reconciliation Officer Barclays Bank UK job must hold a Bachelor on Statistics, Business Computing, Mathematical Analysis
