The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is offering an exciting opportunity for a fresher to join their team as an Assistant Field Officer in Mbarara, Uganda.

Job Summary: The Assistant Field Officer will work under supervision and guidance from senior staff and will be involved in assessing the needs of persons of concern, promoting and monitoring the implementation of assistance projects, and various other responsibilities related to the protection and support of refugees and other persons of concern to UNHCR.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of persons of concern and formulate project submissions with district authorities and implementing partners.
  • Monitor the implementation of assistance projects.
  • Report on new arrivals and expected influx based on interviews.
  • Assist with the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern.
  • Monitor cases of detention and register applicants for voluntary repatriation and family reunion.
  • Prepare monthly sectoral reports and contribute to project monitoring reports.
  • Recommend protection interventions and support risk management.
  • Negotiate with local authorities, partners, and persons of concern.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree with one year of relevant experience, or a Graduate degree with no experience, or a Doctorate degree with no experience in Law, Political Sciences, or other relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English.
  • Field experience and knowledge of refugee law are desirable.
  • Good knowledge of UNHCR’s programmes is an advantage.
  • Relevant functional skills including program management, stakeholder management, resource planning, computer literacy, financial management, and results-based management.
