Friends of Orphans Atimkikuma Vocational Training School
Friends of Orphans was founded in 1999 by a former child soldier, Mr. Anywar Ricky Richard. This was after going through the war in Northern Uganda and seeing how it affected youth and women. He came up with an idea which later developed into a proposal to support the vulnerable community (children, youth and women)Vision A society in which the vulnerable are empowered to achieve their full potential and contribute to the development of their community Mission To contribute to the rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration of former child soldiers, abductees, child mothers, orphans and to combat spread of HIV/AIDS GoalReduce the vulnerability of child mothers, orphans, former soldiers, abductees and vulnerable women through education and skills to empower and protect their rights All these are focused towards improving the social life and welfare of the local community through their participation.We carry out our activities in poverty eradication, human rights, health, education, HIV/AIDS, training and mobilisation of the youth/women to start income generating projects, manage/resolve conflict within their communities.We assess the critical needs of the war affected communities and provide service accordingly.Achievements In the last 10 years, we have managed to carry out the following:
