The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) is a registered, not-for-profit national NGO.  Since its inception in 2006, CCFU has been dedicated to promoting the recognition of culture as vital for human development that responds to Uganda’s national identity and diversity.  The Foundation’s mission is premised on the conviction that the positive aspects of culture can be harnessed to bring about sustainable, social and economic transformation. CCFU attempts to find ways to capitalize on our cultural wealth and to turn this into opportunities for social harmony and equitable development.

The Foundation has three interlinked programme areas through which it works to achieve this mission, namely ‘Promoting a Culture in Development Approach’ which involves research, documentation and training, and provides a basis for all the work. The second area is ‘Cultural Heritage Preservation and Development’ which focuses on support to local initiatives to promote, develop and preserve cultural heritage (through community museums, heritage education, historical buildings and policy advocacy. The third strand of our programme work is ‘Cultural Rights, Governance and Managing Diversity’ which involves engagement and support to indigenous minority groups and cultural institutions to realize their cultural rights.

Job Summary:  Over the past 12 years the Foundation has widened the scope of its operations and is now looking for a dynamic and qualified Ugandan to join the CCFU team as a Heritage Programme Officer! The successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract upon satisfactory completion of a 6-month probation period. The expected start date for employment is 15th July 2019.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Heritage Programme Officer will be expected to:

  • Develop strategies to contribute to the Foundation’s heritage education agenda
  • Provide technical support and participate in capacity building, research, monitoring and evaluating projects relevant to cultural heritage and development
  • Mobilize resources for programmes focusing on the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage
  • Establish and maintain linkages and collaboration with relevant stakeholders in and outside Uganda to promote and preserve cultural heritage as vital for human development

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Heritage Programme Officer should hold a university degree in Cultural Heritage Studies/ Anthropology / Social Work and Social Administration/Development Studies or a related field.
  • At least two years of related work experience
  • Good track record of engagement in heritage development or promotion
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English (knowledge of an indigenous language would be an advantage)
  • Proficiency in using ICT and social media
