Project background:

The Social and Behavioral Change Activity (SBCA) is a five-year program implemented through a cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Uganda) and Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP). The vision of USAID’s Social and Behavioral Change Activity is a Uganda where individuals and communities are not just healthy, but resilient, supported by strong adaptable systems and institutions to lead productive lives.

 

The SBC Activity supports the Government of Uganda (GOU) and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and implement Social and behavioral Change (SBC) communication initiatives that contribute towards reduction in Maternal and Child mortality, Malaria prevalence, Total Fertility rate, new HIV infections, TB prevalence and improved Nutrition out comes, resilience and improved SBC systems and expertise.

 

Job Summary:  The Human-Centered Design (HCD) Associate will support the HCD Specialist to execute HCD processes of the SBCA project which will guide the design and rollout of high-quality SBC interventions for the different thematic areas that SBCA is mandated to address.

 

This position role reports to the Human Centered Design Specialist and involves 40% in country travel.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the project HCD processes including preparing for key design processes such as design workshops, co creation sessions, brainstorm meetings with agencies and stakeholders, support to document processes.
  • Participate in idea generation (ideation) sessions with SBCA staff, IPs, MoH, creative agencies, CSOs and other project stakeholders.
  • Support the audience exploration sessions of the project including formative research.
  • Support the conceptualization and development of various SBC interventions.
  • Support the functionalization of Experience Lab processes both internally and externally and documentation of outcomes.
  • Lead the documentation of HCD processes and activities into defined Knowledge Management products as well as their dissemination.
  • Support the documentation and dissemination of campaign materials and tools with key project stakeholders.
  • Support the HCD specialist with day-to-day administrative tasks.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Literature, Psychology, Industrial & Fine Art, Music & Drama or any other humanities or sciences.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a similar role.
  • Uganda national.
  • Oral and written fluency in English.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter that can work under minimum direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
  • Has a passion for problem-solving and believing that all problems are solvable.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
