Instrumentation and Automation Engineer Jobs – Hima Cement Limited
Hima Cement Ltd, a subsidiary of the LafargeHolcim Group, is looking for a qualified Instrumentation and Automation Engineer to join their team in Kasese, Uganda. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a leading building materials company.

Job Summary: The Instrumentation and Automation Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the Plant’s automation hardware and software systems to ensure optimum performance, in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Writing logic diagrams, programming PLCs, and designing CCR graphic displays for new or revamped equipment.
- Integrating and commissioning hardware/software modifications.
- Conducting troubleshooting and performing high-quality repair work on equipment failures.
- Maintaining and calibrating plant instruments such as weigh feeders, gas analyzers, dust monitors, etc.
- Integrating new instruments into the existing structure.
- Monitoring loan book performance and implementing optimization initiatives.
- Developing and implementing Systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborating with IT department for the installation and operation of plant IT tools and expert systems.
- Managing software updates, backups, and maintaining documentation.
- Complying with Holcim standards for Plant control systems.
- Ensuring compliance with Group Health, Safety, and Environment regulations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A Degree in Systems/Control/Electronics/Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of experience in industrial automation and control systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with FMEA techniques and problem-solving tools.
- Knowledge of the cement manufacturing process and electrical equipment in an automated plant.
- Programming skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Registration with the Engineers Registration Board is desirable.
