About US:

The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), formerly known as the European Community Humanitarian Aid Office, is the European Commission’s department for overseas humanitarian aid and for civil protection. The European Union has been the second largest donor of humanitarian assistance since 2000. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/ Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Humanitarian Aid is channeled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

About Project:

ECHO is implementing a local project called Women and Girl Child Development Association (WEGCDA) which works towards addressing issues that have adversely affected Women and Girl child involvement in the development process. The impediments to women and girl child involvement range from social, economic, cultural as well as political sphere that comprise of elements such as domestic violence and abuse, poverty, unemployment, high literacy rates, early marriages and inadequate awareness creation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Awareness raising and advocacy tasks:

  • Advocating for rights of women and girls for equal treatment at various levels starting from the local lower administration to national level through radio talk shows and other media platforms
  • Attending conferences, meetings and workshops
  • Conducting sensitization/awareness creation workshops in the local communities

Education support tasks: Teaching basic reading and writing skills to women and girls through their small community groups

Communication tasks:

  • Developing Information, Educational Materials like flyers, magazines and newsletter for the project
  • Updating the project social networks like the facebook and the website

Project management and Human Resources tasks:

  • Fundraising for the project activities through proposal writing and other sources
  • Conducting organizational capacity assessments in the various aspects like human resource
  • Carrying out research for informing the planning process for the project

NB: The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.
