About US:

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. UWA was established in 1996 and is managed in accordance with the Wildlife Act Cap 200. The Mission of UWA is: “To Conserve and Sustainably Manage the Wildlife and Protected Areas of Uganda in Partnership with Neighboring Communities and Other Stakeholders for the Benefit of the People of Uganda and the Global Community.”

Job Summary:  The Manager Conservation Awareness and Education will effectively manage Conservation Awareness and Education within UWA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordination, formulation and implementation of Conservation Awareness and Education strategies and programs at national and local levels.
  • In collaboration with UWEC, Wildlife Clubs of Uganda and other relevant stakeholders, design and coordinate implementation of Conservation Education in schools at all levels.
  • Identify and establish strong partnership arrangements with key stakeholders.
  • Undertake fundraising for conservation education and awareness.
  • Coordinate undertaking of periodic evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of Conservation Education and Awareness programmes.
  • Develop and implement work plans and timely prepare performance and other reports for the Unit.
  • Supervise and appraise Wardens under the unit.
  • Perform any other official duties as maybe assigned by the Supervisor and/or Management from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Manager Conservation Awareness and Education career opportunity must hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in either Natural Resources Management, Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration or Education from a recognised University or Institution.
  • For those without a Bachelors Degree in Natural Resources Management possession of a Masters Degree in Natural Resource Management is a Must.
  • For those with a Bachelors Degree in Natural Resource Management, a Masters Degree is either Social Sciences or Natural Resources Management is a must.
  • A minimum of six (6) years’ experience in Wildlife Conservation, two (2) of which should have been at senior officer level in community conservation in a reputable organization.
