MSc Construction Scholarships

MSc Construction Scholarships: sustainable constructions under natural hazards and catastrophic events (SUSCOS).

SUSCOS is an advanced postgraduate program in Sustainable Steel Construction led by an international consortium of universities. The consortium comprises the 5 following universities:

  • University of Coimbra, Portugal;
  • University of Liège, Belgium;
  • Czech Technical University at Prague, Czech Republic;
  • Technical University of Lulea, Sweden and University “Politehnica” of Timisoara, Romania.The course component of SUSCOS for the MSc and Specialization programmes (1 year) takes place at the University of Coimbra. The MSc thesis can be developed at any of the partner universities.The focus of SUSCOS Sustainable Steel and Timber Constructions master course is to provide attendees the engineering ability and know-how to design and construct steel and timber structures in a balanced approach between economic, environmental and social aspects, enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of the steel and timber industry.

The course is organized in three modules covering buildings; from concrete, steel, timber, composite and mixed building technology, bridges and energy-related infra-structures and equipment with a practice oriented approach.

A strong emphasis is given to the reduction of carbon footprint, the energy efficiency of buildings considering a life-cycle approach and the integration in the structural systems of renewable energies and innovative technologies.

The courses are lectured in English.

The Erasmus Mundus program of the European Commission awards a limited number of scholarships for non-European students to follow the SUSCOS Program.

Twelve students from overseas are to be awarded with the Erasmus mundus grant covering the expenses for studies (tuition) & maintenance.

The application for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship does not need to be done separately.

When you apply in the first application round (generally between September and December of the year preceding the start of the academic year), you can indicate that you also apply for the EM scholarship.

The SUSCOS coordination selects the top students from the applicants and passes these names to the European Commission for award of the scholarships.
