Entrance Requirements

Apprenticeship: Requirements

At least 16 years of age.

Grade 10 (minimum) with a pass in Mathematics, Physical Science and English (Official Language), but a Grade 12 qualification will receive preference.

For Electrical, Instrumentation, Air-conditioning / Refrigeration/Electrical Millwright and Autotronics Grade 12 is compulsory, but most important: A pass in Mathematics, Science and English.

Certified copies of all schooling/other qualifications.

Pass an aptitude test – only when required by the NIMT

Pass a medical examination.

Preferably to be employed by a company capable of providing the necessary practical job exposure. (Job-attachment)

Skills Upgrading: Requirements

Trainee could be requested to undergo an evaluation test with the NIMT to establish his trainability and the level at which he has to start training on.

Trainee must be English literate.

Minimum of three years job experience. (Copy of ‘Service Record’ is a prerequisite and therefore must be handed to the Registrar when the trainee registers for the evaluation test).

Minimum Grade 6 with a pass in Mathematics, Physical Science and English (Official Language)

Must be employed to enable the trainee to complete the prescribed tasks before entering for the next level.

Please Note:

Training is conducted over four years, 1st – 3rd year is six months in the Institute and six months in Apprentice’s placement in Industry (job attachment position).

Millwright: First years: 9 months in the Institute.

4th Year + 10 months in industry and two months in the Institute for trade test preparation.

Any other requirements asked for by the employer or the Institute.
