Programme Manager – National Heritage Trust Project NGO Jobs – The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU)
Job Title: Programme Manager – National Heritage Trust Project
Organization: The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Programme Director, Programme Advisor
About US:
The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) is a Uganda-registered non-governmental organisation. CCFU was established in 2005 to “Promote the recognition of culture as vital for human development that responds to our national identity and diversity”. One of the pillars of CCFU’s work is premised on the need to preserve and promote Uganda’s heritage, both tangible and intangible, as important aspects of national identity.
To date, CCFU has been active in promoting heritage education through Cultural Heritage Clubs in 130+ secondary schools throughout the country. CCFU has also supported community museums in various parts of Uganda, some of which are fully operational while others are partially opened to the public. Different activities, including the production of publications, exhibitions, exchange visits and other forms of capacity building, have been carried out to support the growth of these museums.
About National Heritage Trust Project:
CCFU was recently supported by the European Union to develop documentation on our built heritage in Jinja, Entebbe and Kampala. This follows the production of a map of historical buildings in Kampala and its engagement with the relevant authorities to strengthen the legislative framework for the protection of our built heritage. The Foundation is also discussing preservation work at the property of Apollo Kaggwa, a former historian and political personality, dating to the early 1900’s. Other historical buildings have been recognised through plaques, information boards or leaflets. A national railways museum is also in the offing.
The Foundation has been an active member of the International Organisation of National Trusts (INTO) and hosted its biennial conference in Entebbe in 2013. Following this event, CCFU has been investigating ways to formalise its work in heritage preservation through the creation of a membership organisation, to play the role of a National Trust. This is in its formative stage.
