About US:

Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) is an advocacy and lobbying coalition of national women’s organisations, institutions and individuals in Uganda formed in 1993. Uganda Women’s Network membership comprises of 16 national women’s Organisations and individuals. UWONET stands to promote and enhance networking, collective visioning and action among membership and different actors working towards development and the transformation of unequal gender relations in Uganda.  UWONET focuses on influencing policy changes in respect to women in governance and decision-making, Gender Based violence, and economic empowerment. UWONET also works towards networking with various stakeholders, documentation and sharing information as well as capacity building of women’s organisations.

About DGF Project:

UWONET is implementing a project on women and youth empowerment for leadership and women’s rights with support from the Democratic Governance facility (DGF).  The project is three years and is being implemented under a consortium arrangement with three national  women’s rights based organisations and these are; Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE); Action for Development (ACFODE); the Women’s Democracy Network-Uganda Chapter (WDN-U).  The project is three years and is implemented in 45 districts of Uganda including; Busia, Butaleja, Wakiso, Buikwe, Mukono, Namayingo, Kibuuku, Bukedea, Mbale, Mityana, Mubende, Kiboga,  Apac, Oyam, Kaberamaido, Rakai,  Amolator, Kalangala, Kibale, Masaka , Kanungu and Kabale,  Luuka, Namutamba, Kamuli, Mayuge, Bugiri, Amudat, Nakapiripirit, Omoro, Luwero, Mpigi, Nakaseka, Katakwi, Serere, Kumi, Lamwo, Agago, Yumbe, Nebbi, Koboko ,  Adjumani, Moyo, Zombo, Arua

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure effective and efficient project implementation as per plans and expected outputs and outcomes
  • Document all activities under the project, successes, best practices, lessons learnt, challenges and recommendations.
  • Develop policy documents i.e. policy briefs and newsletters in respect to the project
  • Ensure effective utilization of resources and accountability
  • Support in participatory planning processes for implementation of the project
  • Assist Project Coordinator  in  preparation  of  progress  reports  (quarterly,  annual, final) and respond to the queries related to project.
  • Other responsibilities as directed by Programme Coordinator and Executive Director.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The Project Officer (Women and Youth Empowerment for Leadership and Women’s Rights) must hold a Degree in law or political science, Development studies, Local Governance, gender and women’s rights and any other related field. Masters in either field will be of added advantage.
  • Five years’ experience in working on gender, women’s rights and political representation and local governance.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of political and geographically structure of Uganda
  • Demonstrable experience of producing high-quality, credible and learning-focused project results.
  • Ability to produce analytical and concise reports.
  • Must be an excellent team player with networking abilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management (including project cycle, logical framework and participatory monitoring)
  • Previous experience in qualitative and quantitative research and analytical skills
  • Knowledge and experience in data software and management systems an advantage
  • Flexible and a good team player
  • Effective communication (spoken and written)  and time management
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Must be willing to travel extensively within and outside the region as may be required.
