Job Title:        Project Surveyor

Organisation: Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL)

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Project Manager

About US:

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is responsible for bulk purchase of electricity from the generating companies and selling the electricity in bulk to the distribution companies throughout Uganda. UETCL is also responsible for all exports and imports of electricity to Uganda. UETCL envisions: “To become a leading strategic business partner in the transmission and Single Buyer Business and to support sustainable energy development in Uganda.”

Job Summary: The Project Surveyor will be supervising the contractor’s survey-related activities pertaining to the line route, preparation of any desired line adjustments to optimize the line route design and minimize disputes and negative impacts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee the Project Management Unit during the initial stages of mapping and line route verification.
  • Guide RAP team to identify correct route.
  • The incumbent will also guide the contractor through the line route.
  • Propose and optimise required line diversions during implementation while minimizing disputes and negative impacts.
  • Opening up of boundaries.
  • Ascertain that contractor is working within boundaries of acquired land.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the UETCL Project Surveyor job placement should hold a University Degree in Land Surveying or similar relevant qualification.
  • Professional registration with relevant body will be added advantage.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in survey activities.
  • Previous experience in the use of surveying equipment for positioning and precision plus significant experience in survey of long corridor projects (for example electricity lines and roads).
  • Extensive knowledge in use of GIS systems will be added advantage.
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Hold a valid National Driving Permit.
  • Must have Analytical skills, Interpersonal skills, Supervisory skills, Report writing skills.
  • Ability to withstand stressful work situations and have willingness to work long hours outside the normal hours.
  • A person of high integrity, must be highly motivated, innovative and a committed team player.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and be away from duty station for extended periods.
