About US:
Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established under an Act of Parliament to construct, operate and maintain railway, marine and road services both inside and outside Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. As a result of privatisation of operations, the mandate of URC changed from that of an operator to that of asset holder, concession monitor and advisor on railway technical matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Price estimation and cost forecast of the different materials needed for the construction project.
- Help in the preparation of tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation
- Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjusting budget and cost projections accordingly
- Review the services of contractors and/or subcontractors who work on the construction projections
- Measure and value the work done on site and recommend on payments to be made.
- liaise with the sub-contractors and other construction professionals such as architects, Civil Engineers to fulfill the corporations’ objectives
- Select and/or source construction materials for in house projects
- Write reports
- Oversee quality control, health and safety matters of workers on the construction site.
- Prepare various narratives, technical and financial reports as required.
- Resolve any unforeseen technical difficulties and other problems that may arise in the process of the work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) Quantity Surveyor job placement should possess a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Science in Construction/ Building Economics or any other related course.
- At least two years practical experience in related assignments. Must demonstrate experience in related tasks and seek to minimise the costs of construction projects and enhance value for money whilst ensuring that the projects meet all legal and quality assurance requirements and regulations.
- A good working knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to use specialist software
- Good knowledge of the construction industry
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- Shows good leadership and supervisory abilities
- High level of integrity
