Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Management Analyst (Urban Planner) in collaboration with the team members and the project stakeholders will perform the following tasks:
Slum upgrading feasibility study:
- Work with the MLHUD, surveys and Mapping Department to assemble road network, urban planning, and utilities network within the informal settlements.
- Enumerate and map existing settlements and integrate key studies to develop slum upgrading plan including identified sites for basic infrastructure.
- Use satellite imagery (triangulated on the ground), count the houses within the settlement.
- Collaborate with the local authority to support the land use planning of the selected land parcels and subdivision into resident plots and mapping out the supporting infrastructure required.
Land Audit
- Collaborate with SDI to identify sites or rent opportunities within the greater Kampala area for the construction of improved shelter for the most vulnerable households
- Collaborate with the local authority to support the land use planning of the selected land for subdivision into resident plots and supporting infrastructure.
Nakawa Market Accessibility study
- Collaborate with the local authority to support the land use planning of the area around the Nakawa Market and supporting infrastructure.
- Collaborate with KCCA to identify short term relocation options and engage the traders on selecting the best option.
- Develop implementation strategy and plan for both the short, medium and long term development options.
- Any other duties as directed by UNOPS project office.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Programme Management Analyst (Urban Planner)- Retainer job opportunity should hold an advanced University Degree in urban planning or physical planning from a recognized University or equivalent
- University Degree (bachelor’s degree) with a combination of 4 additional years of relevant professional experience in urban planning or physical planning from a recognized University or equivalent may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree.
- At least four years’ experience in urban planning in an informal setting especially in housing and retail markets is required.
- Previous experience and knowledge in the country context related field is an asset
- Languages: English language is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset
