Job Summary: The Project Manager will support implementation of the Uganda Host and Refugee Community Empowerment within the UNDP Emergency Response and Resilience Strategy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform project management functions:
- Provide assistance to Project Management Unit to develop results-based Annual Work Plans that clearly set out output targets, indicators, activities, resource requirements, and budget;
- Support to implementing partners in the coordination of activities to ensure their efficient and effective contribution to project outcomes;
- Preparation of quarterly, annual and as when required progress reports detailing progress against the output targets, and the activities undertaken to UNDP;
- Closely monitor overall the project progress, impact and risks and inform the project board of any changes within the project environment which would affect foreseen and agreed upon expected outcomes;
- Sharing information regularly on the progress of project implementation, and any relevant issues as may be necessary;
- Timely disbursement and reporting on funds;
- Ensure that the project board meetings are convened to report on project progress and approve subsequent activity/work plans.
Ensures the provision of effective technical assistance to project implementation:
- First point of call for the project implementing partners, whether through provision of direct technical assistance or identification and facilitation of alternative support options;
- Backstopping of experts providing technical assistance to the project implementing partners.
Knowledge building and sharing:
- Contribute to the development and review of knowledge products;
- Identifying and codifying good practices globally and regionally for consideration;
- Synthesis of lessons learnt and document best practices;
- Provide contents to be shared through various media, including websites for UNDP and donor (Korea International Cooperation Agency); Facebook, and Twitter; and
- Proactively contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the United Nations UNDP Programme Manager job placement should hold an advanced (Masters) University Degree in business administration, management, economics, development studies or related field. Post Graduate Diploma or Certification in Project Management an advantage
- A minimum of seven (7) years progressive working experience at national or international level in project implementation and management including familiarity in practical application of Results Based Management;
- Experience in implementation of crisis response programmes/ projects is desirable;
- Experience in implementation of projects or initiatives for enhancement of inclusive and equitable economic livelihoods for refugees and host-communities in humanitarian and developing context;
- Understanding of refugees and host communities’ dynamics in context of Uganda and East African Region an advantage;
- Experience working with UNDP and/or other UN Agencies or International NGOs is desirable;
- Some knowledge and experience working with government and sub-national humanitarian and development actors is an asset;
- Demonstrated initiative, problem solving skills and focus on outcomes and ability to meet deadlines;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

- Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude;
- Ability to advocate and provide policy advice;
- Lead teams effectively and show conflict resolution skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
