The US Embassy in Kampala, representing diplomatic relations between the US and Uganda, encompasses various offices including USAID, CDC, and Peace Corps.
Job Summary:
The part-time Physician will provide primary, urgent, and emergency outpatient medical care to eligible American employees and their families. This includes emergency and occupational health services for all Mission employees, managing hospitalizations/medical evacuations, and participating in after-hours call duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver primary, urgent, and emergency outpatient medical care.
- Make decisions on hospitalization/medical evacuation requirements.
- Engage in after-hours call responsibilities with the health unit team.
- Contribute to workplace health policies and advice for mission improvement.
- Assess employees’ work abilities and potential Medevac implications.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School with post-graduate internship/residency/fellowship.
- Current, valid, and unrestricted medical license to practice in the host country, country of citizenship, or the U.S.
- Minimum of three years of post-graduate clinical experience in primary care (Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) with significant direct patient care involvement.
- Ability to adjust medical responses to diverse medical and social situations.
- Expertise in medical terminologies and office-based surgical procedures.
- Proficient in emergency response skills (intubation, IV insertion, CPR, etc.).
- Familiarity with standard medical and basic laboratory equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based medical literature searches.
- Sensitivity to patients’ needs and confidentiality.
- Fluency in English (written, speaking, and reading).
