Study Permit Requirements

According to the Immigration Control Act of 19 August 1993, all International students (SADC and Non-SADC) should be in possession of a valid approved Study Permit and Visa before entering Namibia for the purpose of studying. All prospective and other senior students are required to apply for a Study Permit and Visa on the prescribed forms obtainable from the University of Namibia or at the Namibian Embassy in your country or the nearest Namibian Embassy.

Only persons with permanent Namibian Residence, Refugees or Asylum Seekers and Diplomatic representatives are exempted from applying for a Study Permit and Visa. The mentioned categories are exempted on condition that they provide the relevant documentation (i.e. Permanent Residence Permit, approved and endorsed Refugee / Political Asylum Seekers status, a Courtesy Visa which confirms diplomatic status) to the University of Namibia.

Currently, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration made a temporary arrangement with the University of Namibia to issue study permits to students during the registration period. Senior students should ensure that they renew their study permits before the endorsed study permit expires. Failure to do that, the University will de-register the student and informs the relevant authority for deportation.
First year students who do not have a Namibian Embassy in their countries should ensure that all the necessary documents required are in place before travelling to Namibia. All first year students should have Police Clearance from their country of origin, and complete the Medical Certificate and Radiological Report application forms with their medical practitioners. These application forms can be obtained from the website under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-Namibia.
