YMCA Kampala Branch

Below is a review of The Uganda Young Men’s Christian Association Kampala Branch

BACKGROUND

Kampala Branch is one of the oldest and biggest Branch of Uganda YMCA. It was started with the kind assistance of the YMCA of USA who sent two fraternal Secretaries, Moses Perry and Dan Tylor. Dan Tylor started the YMCA at Kampala in 1961 and Moses Perry at Jinja in 1962. This was after Mr. E.M.K Mulira met with representatives from the World Alliance of YMCA’S in Geneva who had come to investigate the possibilities of YMCA’S in Africa.

Some correspondence between East Africa and the World Alliance was exchanged but no definite action was taken up to 12th June 1959 at a meeting called by Mr. A.R. Russell when an adhoc meeting was held to discuss the formation of the YMCA in Uganda. Many Ugandan’s attended this meeting to include Mr. R. S.Kibuuka Musoke, Mr. J. S. Magoba and Mr. C. J. W.
